My sources are now saying that the new coach will be Joe Torre, with Tony Larussa as the hitting coach, and Joe Madden as DOBO. Secondly, yes I think it was common sense and common knowledge that when we announced BK was staying on that it would absolutely handicap a non-alum search. Do you think HCGM would have ever accepted the hoops job if we told him he couldn't choose his own top assistant? That phone call from Schaus would have lasted about 8 seconds. That doesn't mean we can't get good, even excellent, non-alum head coaches to look at the job- but it does mean we aren't getting the "home run hire" fresh off a CWS appearance that many are pining for.
It was trade-off to appease the minority of season ticket holders who were extremely butthurt about GS's firing and a move to keep the roster in tact. If this were any other school in the country, instead of the one you are emotionally invested in, this would have occurred to you right off the bat.
