      • One other question: Does anybody know why Kemnitz withdrew his name from contention as head coach? What's the pulse of the Shockernet nation about him taking over and grooming a guy like Hooper as an assistant?

            • It's right next to the press release NC State issued when HCGM turned them down.

              • My sources are now saying that the new coach will be Joe Torre, with Tony Larussa as the hitting coach, and Joe Madden as DOBO. Take it to the bank!

                • I wonder what the reason will be for Heefner turning it down? For all I know maybe he wanted to bring in his own pitching coach and Sexton said we already have Kemnitz.

Wow. I would really like to know if WSU really offered him $400 K a year and if he really turned it down.

It has been my belief all along that Gene should have been allowed to stay as long as he wanted and when he was ready to retire that BK be given first crack at the job. So yes I would like to See BK be named head coach. And Hooper being a Shocker would be a great choice for an assistant coach.

                      • Promoting the top assistant of a fired coach may be the fastest way imaginable to ensure SB's attendance charts continue the trend.

If that really is the case, then why keep him at all? If they are really looking for someone totally new (outside of the Shocker family), it would probably be a lot easier if the new guy didn't have to accept BK as an assistant. I am for keeping BK but if what you are saying is true then maybe I am in the minority.

well, I think Heefner needs a Kemnitz - pitching has been DBU weakness.

Firstly, BK won't be head coach. His decision to "withdraw" his name from consideration wasn't unilateral.

Secondly, yes I think it was common sense and common knowledge that when we announced BK was staying on that it would absolutely handicap a non-alum search. Do you think HCGM would have ever accepted the hoops job if we told him he couldn't choose his own top assistant? That phone call from Schaus would have lasted about 8 seconds. That doesn't mean we can't get good, even excellent, non-alum head coaches to look at the job- but it does mean we aren't getting the "home run hire" fresh off a CWS appearance that many are pining for.

It was trade-off to appease the minority of season ticket holders who were extremely butthurt about GS's firing and a move to keep the roster in tact. If this were any other school in the country, instead of the one you are emotionally invested in, this would have occurred to you right off the bat.

What makes you think Heefner turned it down or even received an offer? Usually a coach will announce that he has withdrawn his name from consideration for a coaching job he has inteviewed for and is no longer interested in. That may still happen although such a statement in and of itself is not proof that an offer was made.
