  • It's not like Mike Pelfry is totally divorced from the Wichita State program. It sounds to me like he is still very connected and loyal and very well might be a guy recruits would be able to chat with (assuming that is allowed but does anyone really care about any rules anymore).

As someone who isn't very connected to the program, could you describe HCBG's culture?

I think you're saying the "spot usage" culture?

Kind of wanted the same info. But definitely have noticed that he doesn’t seem to work in there… but seems like he might have to?

          • ECU fans won't like this.

LHP Zach Root has entered the transfer portal (along with outfield Luke Nowak). ECU already removed both from their website...

              • Not sure how many seniors have another year coming (who the eff knows these days) in Greenville, but the Pirates look to be losing a ton. They've been excellent at filling in over the years, but things are different now.

They will lose Yesavage to the draft, and likely JJC. Now that Root is gone....possible guys out of eligibility are Beal, Wilcoxen, Clonch, Berini, Starling, Cunningham, Kahler and Groller, all of whom were major contributors. That's a ton to replace, IF they are all out of eligibility.

Assuming Costello is correct (not questioning Stickboy46 he's just not listed on D1) that's 6 total for ECU so far, joining Root, Nowak, Bryan (GR) and non-roster players Parker Thomas and Isaac Armstrong. Pirates have some work to do.

I know a team that whipped their ass recently that could use a few guys.

The eligibility issue is made even more confusing with how the NCAA handled the eligibility waivers for Spring sport athletes. All spring 2020 sports received an eligibility waiver. The NCAA gave all these athletes a season of competition waiver because they didn’t play a high percentage of their games. For fall 2020 sports, the NCAA did the same thing. A few months later, the NCAA gave the same waiver to winter 2020-21 sports.

For 2021 spring sports, however, this changed. If a team played more than fifty percent of their games, an athlete’s season counts towards their eligibility. I think a large majority of programs did play more than half their spring sport games in 2021. ECU certainly did getting in 61 games including 3 NCAA regional games games and 2 super regional games.

So while the fall and winter sports this year still had quite a few athletes who still had their extra Covid year available that is not the case for 2024 spring sport athletes. Thank goodness this extra covid year business will be pretty much behind us from here on forward.

Root wasn't the same guy when he came back from his injury. Talented, no doubt. He was a Gator commit prior to going to ECU. No doubt he's looking to get paid, but buyer beware of the unhealthy left arm.

Costello was mentioned because he was already pulled off the ECU roster site similar to Root and Nowak

                          • A bit too lazy and busy to do it, but if you want to read twitter tea-leaves, there looks to be many signs of a lot of the notable guys coming back.

Like many have said, not hard to tell, lineup should be about the same and pretty salty, barring a couple exceptions.

Pitching is a complete crap shoot.
