Opening Weekend: Shox @ Arkansas Little Rock (Feb.16-18)

It seems like we’ve had a lot of disappointing openers to the season going back the last many seasons. It’s been awhile where we looked the part on day 1.

So for the first time in a while, I’m at least interested in what happens on Saturday this year. Color me impressed.

5 straight opening day losses.

I had heard he is a bulldog. Not overpowering but he has nice movement on his pitches. Time will tell whether he will be the closer. Usually you don't throw your closer for 3+ innings. And you generally aren't going to waste your closer in a blowout game. Certainly a nice Shocker debut for him today.

Enjoy imbibing from the Chalice of Victory tonight. But tomorrow is a new day. 'It's only 1 game' is a valid cautionary statement for most sports, but especially for baseball.

We don't have a lot of players with D-1 experience to lean on but the ones we had certainly were solid today. Jordan Rogers, Seth Stroh, Mo Millan and Caden Favors.

Looking forward to seeing how Daniel Zang handles his D-1 mound debut tomorrow. I liked what I saw of him in the fall.

You couldn't ask Favors to set any better example for the youngins though! Well done!

I thought it was interesting that we leaned on almost no freshmen. Parker at short (and he struggled) and Cam Durnin came in late on a switch. Pitching was Favors and juco/transfer. It seemed intentional but I have no idea.

We’ll see the freshmen soon enough I’m sure.


I did like the approach today though.
