My one cent (on what I was pointing out) is that Todd Butler was a mediocre HC everywhere he'd been. As an Assistant, even Mizzou wouldn't keep him after WSU. I don't like taking TB off the hook for his failure.

      Me either. Good point.

I don't know if they'll upload anything prior to the news conference, but Wichita State has been putting new coaches 'memorandum of understanding' (aka contract offers with details such as pay, benefits, and other terms) online at https://www.wichita.edu/about/public..._contracts.php Nothing yet for Green but something will probably be uploaded eventually.

Now we reset which we should know within a few weeks how awful that may look.

Something about this pseudo process, the odd interview with Pelfrey and inconsistent reports on why players entered the portal, still doesn’t sit well with me.
That's pretty much how I feel. I hope this hire works out but I am not very optimistic. I do think in the long run it mostly depends on the NIL anyway. If WSU doesn't start catching up soon and I mean very soon, our days as a national power in baseball or basketball are gone.

The more than anything the reason we aren’t a National Power in baseball is money. Now more than ever it takes money supporting facilities (we are well behind the curve despite great efforts to keep up), NIL (Until there are some set of guidelines/rules, we may never catch up), and just plain being noticed (Marketing).

I know many will say “the product”, but it’s not how it works anymore. Money buys success.

People are not gonna show up to watch losing athletics. Maybe some really bored people will and enjoy the money first approach but that’s not how it works. You can preach on and on about that but that’s not how cause and effects work. So if you want the money first, you better get some big gun hammers to drop some dimes.

              ... No really, deuces.

Other non p5 teams seem to win consistently and don’t have big fan bases and I doubt they have big NIL deals.

My gut tells me the “advisors” are told all sorts of things to get the players to transfer. Once transferred what recourse does a player have when deals are not exactly what was promised? Nothing that’s what.

I would think one strategy is recruit good players that have been buried at P5’s, and JUCO players. Don’t stop recruiting freshman obviously but finding the guys with talent who feel they were slighted at P5’s and JUCO’s who are only 1 to 2 year guys anyways may be one way to help reverse the flow.

Also when are we going to hear of some commitments? I was against this coaching hire but he is here so let’s go. I would think he has to be hitting recruiting hard right now.

Gene is at the press conference. I wonder if Gene gave the new coach a bone crushing handshake.

                              Says the right stuff.

I’ll say with how pissed I was when it was announced, it’s been best case scenario since then. With the Pelfrey interview and this presser.

At the end of the day doesn’t mean a lot. Just words. But better start than I would have thought.

Have to admit… I like him.
Having Gene’s support goes a long way
Predict MP will remain as one of the (two?) pitching coaches.
He paid his homage to Gene which is important.
