And Samford did not look that strong...they scored three combined runs in two games against FSU.

I don't know what, if anything, that you can say about the strength of the SEC because of Mississippi State's (#2) performance in Tallahassee.

I am absolutely sure that, although they won their SEC tourney, that Mississippi State is not the best team in the SEC.
Speaking of Mississippi State... Here is another thing that bothers me... Georgia Tech finishes 8th in the ACC, wins the ACC tournament and gets a #2 seed in a regional. Mississippi State finishes in a 5-7 tie in the SEC, wins the SEC tournament and gets a #2 seed in a regional. Missouri finishes 6th in the Big 12 and wins the tournament and is a #4 seed. UAB finishes #7 in CUSA and wins the tournament and is a #4 seed. CU finishes 8th (last) in the MVC wins the tournament and is a #4 seed.

Basically if you finish anywhere in the ACC and SEC and win your tournament you will get a #2 seed but almost every other automatic qualifier is a #4 seed?

      Miss State's RPI was 21.
      Georgia Tech's was 25.
      Missouri's was 73.

Would you like to see a team with an RPI in the 20s coming to your regional as the 4 seed?

Valid argument on the RPI. I think my main point is the RPI is overused especially when you get multiple teams from the same conference.

Miss State RPI #21, #2 seed, 1-2 record in the regional
Georgia Tech RPI #25, #2 seed, 2-2 record in the regional
Missouri RPI #73, #4 seed, 1-2 record in the regional
Creighton RPI #123, #4 seed, 2-2 record in the regional

To answer your question, in this small sample, this year it doesn't look like it would have mattered much. FSU never had to play the #2 seed...

Yeah...Samford (RPI 44) took both games from Mississippi State (RPI 21). Samford has some offensive power.

And Miss State threw their ace in the first game against Samford (Samford 5-0).

If you didn't know the RPI's, you'd swear Samford was the stronger team.

FSU's pitching was on in this regional...only allowing a total of four runs in the three games. That was the difference.

And UAB (RPI 106) had their ace handcuff FSU..then they fell off.

If a team has one or two good pitchers, they can win a game or two in a regional regardless of RPI....it is often the pitching depth that catches them.

LOL. Very successful campaign MSU. Clearly you overachieved this year. Way to pass WSU up as the Valley's elite!
See it is this type of unbridled and unchecked arrogance that really turns Valley fans against WSU. We managed to play to our seed while knocking off a true national power along the way. We all wanted more but we aren't arrogant about it. Stuff like that is simply hurtful to read.

At least we managed to get into the field of 64 and if not for one bad inning we might have been in a Super Regional. Conversely a team to the west of Springfield has not been to the CWS since 1996, not even been to a baseball regional since 2009, and their fans are deriding our program. I think that is envy I am smelling. To be clear everyone in the Valley is envious of the success that Gene achieved in the 80s, 90s, and up to the SR loss to the Noles in 2008. We have long term envy, but I think Wichita fans have what I call "short term envy." You see the recruits coming into Springfield. You see Tate Matheny. You compare this to the athletes that Gene is trying to turn into baseball players with mixed success. In essence you see the writing on the wall. We aren't "there" yet so to speak but we are tilting upwards while your program is at best listing. Now I would trade nearly anything in my life outside of family to experience the joy you all got to feel in 1989 so don't think that I am not envious of your past. But it is the past.

                I read it, then chuckled.

So, @LuskingforGuttin:, no other fan base, including yours, has one, two, or a very few that act the same way toward other programs? Really??? I, for one, do not label a fan base by the very few that rub me the wrong way, nor should you or other Valley fans. It also makes a big difference, in my book anyway, whether such comments are made on their own board or someone elses. Posters from other fan boards shouldn't come on boards not theirs if they don't know how to handle (or ignore) certain baiting posters or how to approach any other boards' posters in general.

Example: Because of a few posters here, you come on our board and label us all as having "short term envy". That's really showin' your skills on another's board. We know what our problems are and they have nothing to do with what MSU is doing or not doing or envy of your program.

This board has a lot of posters from other schools that are very welcomed here. Why? Because they are intelligent enough to understand they are on someone else's board and not being a troll. You could have written your post much differently, expressed all your valid points, and not given anything for the majority here to use against you or reasons to "be hurtful".

Remember, this is not your board, but someone else's. If you don't like what a few say about your program, you can choose ignore them, not give them ammunition against you, be a troll, or not come on here.

Baylor beats DBU 8-2. All of the Valley teams and even the shadow Valley team are now done.

ShockTalk beat me to the punch, but basically he stated everything right on the money. If you don't like seeing your team slammed on a rival message board, then maybe you shouldn't even bother reading. It happens both ways. You're taking it a bit too hard. The truth hurts. I'm not apologizing for the truth. There is absolutely no envy of Missouri State University from here. You want to believe that to make you feel better because you see the truth in the difference between two levels of program. You had one of your best teams ever and you couldn't even win more than a game out of your weak regional. That's not our fault.

For the record, this is Casey Garrison for President from MVCfans, so hopefully that gives you a bit of a background to the nature of this poster.

What is this amateur hour. First u can't do averages on the ranking numbers, u have to look at te raw rpi numbers. 2nd If u want to make a statistical valid comparison u need to use ISR. Do that for both rpi and ISR and see what u get.

Oh, that guy! He recently suggested using Kemper Arena (if Sprint Center was occupied) as the venue for a future MVC tournament. He's a piece of work.
