Game probably won't finish today.
Sitting at "The Box" today, watching LSU play a small school from Long Island, for a chance to go to the College World Series. A school that averaged less than 60 fans. A team that had seven players drafted.
It's not the game. It's not the kids. It's the Coach. Possibly plural.
More times than I care to count today did the flying "W" on my hat get recognized. Almost always accompanied by "What happened to the Shockers?"
They all even knew our nickname. Many commented on loving watching games with Shocker fans."Some of the best out there. Sad what has happened."
It's time.

Stony Brook up 6-1 over LSU in the 4th.
Any of these Stony Brook players could play for WSU. They can hit. They have patience. They're smart on the base paths. Just a great little team. No wonder why they have the best record in Division I.
Surely WSU can compete with the Stony Brooks of the world? Correct?Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

I can....but it's fading.
Their coach seems to be able to get through to these kids from Long Island just fine.
And they are about to go into Death Valley and take 2 of 3 from LSU and advance to the College World Series. And you just don't waltz into Alex Box Stadium and expect to walk out with a win, much less 2 of 3, when you are a team from the American East conference.
Remember?

Fantastic catch at the wall for out #1 in the bottom of the 9th.
Kent State leads Oregon at Oregon 2-0 in the 4th and 1-0 in the series.
2 outs now in Death Valley.
The Stony Brook pitcher is still throwing seeds around 120 pitches..... 0-2 ......

Hire this guy right now.
Real class from the LSU fans. Don't think there were more than 20 fans (probably parents) for Stony Brook at the game, yet LSU fans stayed and cheered and applauded the Seawolves after the game. Well done LSU fans.

LSU led 1 inning of 29 in the series. The fans here are what I remember being around in Omaha: knowledgable, reapectful, and loyal.
But they did stay to congratulate Stoney Brook. There was no negativity. Just respect for a team that outplayed thiers.
Now, someone tell me again how we are too far north. Someone tell me how the kids have changed. How pitchers that average less than 5k per game win 55 games. Those boys hit the ball, bunt with 2 strikes, move runners, and play super defense.
Its time for a change at Wichita State. Glad i dont have to decide whether to spend money or not.

If I understand the brackets correctly...Stony Brook should be on the side with Arizona, UCLA, and FSU.
I did not realize how many drafted players that they have until I watched some of their play in the tournament. They are very patient at the
plate, have a very efficient infield and good pitching. And batters 1-4 are really tough.
