  • "If only the Walter Johnson wasn't full of JUCO, DII, and NAIA players I could get excited"

True. Unless you are in the Cape or on the West
Coast, it looks like the Kansas summer leagues as well
As the Texas leagues are made up mostly of
    Those type players.

    • That's my new favorite poem.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

Oh I agree but the Jayhawk league looks to average roughly 12 D1 players per team where as the rosters I could find for the WJL averaged about 6 per team.

Then again just because a player is D1 doesn't mean he brings anymore competition than a JUCO, NAIA, DII guy. I guess all that is important is that they are playing on a daily basis.

The Northwoods and Prospect Leagues also tend to draw a higher caliber of players.

              • Casey has his average up to 0.315 at Eau Claire in the Northwoods Legaue with 5 home runs and 17 RBI in 92 AB's over 24 games. He has struck out 17 times and walked 11 times. He has a 0.909 OPS.

More ominously is that A.J. Ladwig got off to a very poor start going 0-4 with 1 good outing and 3 very bad outings. His last appearance was on June 21st. In his 4 appearances he gave up 30 hits in 18 innings allowing 18 runs (16 earned for an ERA of 7.58) He did have 14 K's to 4 BB which is not bad. Teams were hitting 0.361 against him and his WHIP was 1.79.

They may have shut A.J. down for the summer as he is no longer listed on the Eau Claire roster. Probably a good move. I sure hope he is not injured. Keeping my fingers crossed that he just had a tired arm and needed some rest.

                • Cale Elam is off to a poor start for the Falmouth Comodores in the Cape Cod League.

He is has made 5 appearances and pitched 5 innings allowing 8 hits, 2 walks and 5 earned runs for an ERA of 9.00. Teams are hitting 0.381 against him and he has a WHIP of 2.00 Not exactly closer type of numbers.

Perhaps continuing to have trouble getting on top of his slider. Maybe they should consider shutting him down as well. He was the one guy for sure I thought Gene and Brent may have over-worked during the season.

                  • The guys playing for Liberal are looking pretty good.

Parker hitting .426 with 3hr and 17 rbi and an OPS of 1.077 in 72 plate appearances.

Baker hitting .317 and an OPS of .977 in 74 plate appearances.

                    • Sam Hall played in 3 games for Hannibal on May 29, 30 and 31 going 1 for 9 (0.111) and has not played since. I assume he has been shut down also. For what reason I do not know, but you have to suspect an injury or re-injury.

Kris Gardner is starting for Hannial and pitching 1 game per week so far. He is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA in 25 innings. He pitched 6 innings in each his 1st 3 starts and went 7 innings in a 9-0 win over Springfield last night. He is holding opponents to a 0.208 BA and has a WHIP of 0.92.

In his last 2 outings Kris went 13 innings allowing no runs on 9 hits while striking out 22 and walking 1. That's the kind of stats that will make a Shocker fan smile.

Like those numbers. Especially good to see Tyler Baker build some confidence after a tough 1st season offensively as a Shocker.

Kyle Vail has pitched much for the BeeJays. 3 innings in 4 appearances, although he has not given up any runs (not sure about inherited runs). He did pitch 1 scoreless inning on Monday and 1 on Tuesday in non-league games. Hard to say what is going on with Kyle.

The Jayhawk League Stats has Parker at 0.373 with 2hr and 10 RBI and they have Baker hitting at 0.250. I'm guessing that the stats provided on the Jayhawk League site are league games only.

                              • Up in Alaska:

Eric Harbutz, Matsui Miners 0.292 (14/48), 1 Double, 2 Triples, 4 RBI, 4 BB, 8 SO. 0-2 in SB attempts and a not very good 6 errors in 12 games.

Bob Arens and Foster Vielock were supposedly going to play for Matsui but I don't see them in the stats or on what roster info I can find.

Micah Green was supposed to be playing for the Anchorage Bucs but I don't see him in their stats or on their roster either.
