Different guys play the games differently.

CPOY and All American Carter Spivey wasn't supposed to play this weekend but with the game on the line (ECU leading 6-5 bottom 9, 2 on no out) he comes on to try and close it.

He induces a bunt pop up for out 1. A deep flyout moves a runner up and it's 1st and 3rd but 2 out. A ground out to 3rd ends it. # 13 ECU 6 #12 North Carolina 5 in Chapel Hill. I'm certain ECU saw a win over UNC critical to hosting in that region. Pirates go 2-0 against the Tarheels.

Trailing 8-3, Incarnate Word scored 4 in the 6th & 1 in each of the 7th, 8th and 9th to beat Houston 10-8.

Memphis is finding ways to win, which is always a dangerous habit. Walkoff 6-5 winners over Youngstown State.

    FAU 8 USF 6

#5 Florida beat Cincinnati again 13-7.

UCF sweeps Clemson at Clemson 13-6.

Tulane gets their 1st win of the season, beating lowly St. Johns 9-3.

Creighton gave up 33 runs in losing 2 of 3 at Coastal Carolina this weekend (they won 10-5 today).

Ku erased any hope of Oakland getting their 1st win today with a 12 run 6th. Unless Oakland can beat Ku tomorrow, Oakland will be 0-7 when we see them Friday.

Stetson is 4-3 after dropping an extra inning game to Delaware today, 8-6 in 10 innings.

ORU leads Texas State 8-3 in the 8th.

Long Beach 11-5 over Seattle. It was their only game of the weekend due to weather.

Creighton’s bullpen is atrocious, their starting pitching rotation unsettled, and only half of the lineup can hit. However, the half that can hit does so with power. Creighton will struggle to qualify for the conference tournament.

St John’s isn’t so lowly. They have a win over 7-1 Old Dominion and were competitive in the other games of the series, and won their road series with Tulane, picked fourth in the AAC.

UCF’s weekend at Clemson was impressive.

ECU’s winning both legs of the home and home over the Heels will pay dividends.

Oral Roberts with a strong series win at Texas State.

Oakland grabs their first win today over KU, 6-3. They’ll come to Eck on Friday with a 1-6 record after being swept at Lamar and taking 1 of 4 from KU on a neutral site.

It's early and there will be a lot of movement over the next month, but I wanted to take a quick look at our schedule as well as the future of the conference using Warren Nolen's ELO rating which is similar to Pablo in volleyball (a fairly reliable measuring stick of outcomes once enough data is baked in).

              Non Conference H/A

              0/3 Long Beach 100
              0/4 Utah Tech 225
              3/0 Oakland 235
              2/1 Oral Roberts 72
              1/1 Kansas 158
              3/0 Stetson 126
              1/2 Oklahoma 73
              0/3 Creighton 87
              2/1 Oklahoma State 10
              3/0 UMass (no games)
              1/1 Kansas State 88

              Conference (future members) *Departing

              East Carolina 9
              *UCF 41
              (FAU) 44

Looking forward to playing in Omaha in a few weeks. St Johns may in fact be better than expected, but they were picked 6th in the Big East and outside of UCONN and you guys, BEast baseball is pretty bad.

ECU takes every single game seriously. Cliff Godwin has a culture. I hope we can build something similar.

No chance that UT, Umass, Oakland will be top 100 probably not even top 200). I'm hopeful the rest of the schedule will be.

Doing work and seeing what's on.....Oklahoma State at Missouri State and ECU at Duke are a couple of games of interest. Bares plated 5 in the 2nd but it's tied now in the 6th at 5. Now tied in the 7th at 8. Now 9-8 OSU. Now 12-8 OSU. #10 for OSU, freshman Nolan Schubart, 6'5", 227 absolute MONSTER. Left handed hitter took one off the scoreboard, opposite field, earlier in the game, just now hit one a mile over the centerfield wall. Two of the longer home runs you'll ever see. So far he's 3-5, 2HRs and 6 RBI. Hitting about .430 so far on the season. OSU has plated 7 in the 7th, 12-8 at the stretch.

Duke touched up some Pirate relievers for a snowman in the 5th. They lead 9-0. ECU gets their 1st hit of the day in the 7th. I think ECU has more fans at the game. There's no question there are more ECU fans in Durham than Duke fans. Still 9-0 in the 8th. Get your butts to the games this spring. I'm not going to sit around and be outcheered by OSU, KU, KSU or freaking ECU family. Final Duke 9 ECU 0.

Listening to the Duke guy doing the game....man are we lucky. This guy couldn't carry Shane & Denning's jock straps, and that's our freaking bench.

So I started checking schedules...baseball may be worse than basketball for scheduling.

OSU plays 4 non conference road games. Today at MSU (which is the Springfield Ballpark), us, Dallas Baptist & at ORU.

Arkansas plays exactly one non conference road game. They play 4 neutral site games. One. We've played 7 already, and that number will end up at 16.

Texas Tech plays 4. One at New Mexico (wanna bet that gets cancelled?), 2 game set at Stanford and ACU (might be able to count Rice but not exactly).

In basketball you usually travel on a plane for 1 game maybe a night or 2. Baseball is multiple nights, often on a bus, multiple people per room, limited food options....it's not simple to be ready to play well day after day. Home field is a much bigger advantage.

LSU plays 3. At Texas, at SE Louisiana and at Tulane. All single games, only 1 overnight trip (maybe).

Texas plays 4. 3 at Cal State Fullerton this weekend and a single (part of a mid week home and home) at Texas State.

Ole Miss plays 4. 5 or less seems to be the mandate for the SEC. No wonder they win at such a high percentage.

I wonder where that dumbass Tulane fan is. I have a few questions to ask him.

                      ... No really, deuces.

Not much to get excited about there, except for the new schools coming into the conference.

Yeah, I'm trying to stay positive about the prospects of next season's baseball league which has the potential to be very competitive, but yesterday wasn't all that bad. ECU had a tough day but they also swept ranked UNC so 2-3 vs ACC isn't bad. Houston, Memphis, UCF, Stetson, OSU all won, Tulane, ECU and KState loss. Could have been worse.

I would like to know how they are planning to do the conference with 10 teams. If we play everyone there would not be an even number of home and away series. But that's a year away. Work to do this season.

Didn't really care that Houston and UCF won.......they're leaving. Not sure how I should think about a Memphis 8 - Central Arkansas 6 game. As you said, ECU and Tulane lost.

The newbies aren't here yet (was pleased how most of them did, however).

Have no idea what to think about the Stetson/Sienna game (how good/bad is Sienna?).

Yes, I like to see our OOC teams win their games, but......they are out of conference.

Well....Sienna doesn't have much pitching at all, but they make up for it by not hitting.

(They're 0-8 so far against UCF, Jacksonville and Stetson)

All your points are fair. More than anything, these guys just need to start winning a lot of games, starting Friday.

ORU is solid as always. They are 7-2 after defeating Tarleton State 6-5 last night in Tulsa (J.L. Johnson Stadium). RPI 28/ELO 62

                                Sienna 3 Stetson 10

New Orleans 6 Tulane 5 (Greer Field at Turchin Stadium). The pain continues for the Green Wave. 1-9. They will Evansville some folks in conference.

Incarnate Word 1 UTSA 2 (Roadrunner Field, San Antonio, TX)

Miami (OH) 15 Cincinnati 12 (University of Cincinnati Stadium, Cincinnati, OH) I watched a bit of this game, and believe me when I tell you, it was yougly.

USF 6 Florida State 7 F/13 (Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium, Tallahassee, FL) Brutal loss for the Bulls. They scored twice in the top of the 13th to take a 6-4 lead, only to have the 'Noles walk them off with a 2 out 2 run double in the bottom of the inning. Allow me to add, I am stunned that FSU not only plays 8 non conference road games, but fully 3 are outside of Florida. What in the name of Mike Martin is going on there?

Oklahoma cancelled one of their 10 scheduled non conference road games. A surprisingly high number for the defending CWS runners up. They play road series at Houston and Gonzaga later in the season.
