Shox vs. K-State, game 1

Just got back home from the game. The win sure makes the drive home easier, but these long extra inning games are hard on an old man.
I will say that the fans in Manhattan were much better than the Ku fans were in Lawrence. While many of the Kstate fans did leave early, there were still several there at the end. At ku there was nothing but Shocker fans left by te end of the game.
I thought AJ Ladwig pitched outstanding tonight. Actually if I remember right, Kstate didn't get a hit after Kyle Boughman came into the game. Kyle, Cale Elam and AJ didn't allow Kstate to get a single hit. And the top of the Kstate line up has some pretty dangerous hitters.
4-0!

Donnie's other hit tonight was also huge as it brought in the 2 runs to give us the lead in the 15th inning.

Honorable mentions to Ryan Hege for his tying home run to allow us to get to extra innings and to Dayne Parker for his consistent work at the plate and his solid defensive work.
Of KSU's 7 runs I believe 5 of the runs were scored by runners who were either walked or HBP and the other 2 were the guys who homered.
Dayne Parker made some great defensive plays and got 4 hits tonight. Besides Hege who also had another hit besides the homer and Lambert (2 run homer and 2 rbi hit), I would also give mention to Harbutz for his 2 hits and Casey Gillespie for 3 hits and for making some good defensive plays including that stab to end the game.
I believe you are right about KSUs runs, they only had 3 other hits in the whole game beside the 2 homers in 15 innings. Overall a really good night of pitching for the Shox (especially Ladwig, Elam and Boughman).Last edited by shocker3; April 25, 2012, 04:19 AM.

This game almost turned ugly for KSU twice. You could tell by the KSU dugout and their fans in the stands that they were terrified of getting blown out on when WSU went up 6-1 in the 3rd inning. Their eyes were all as wide as saucers until WSU some how found a way to blow the lead. Too bad too. Besides OU beating them 64-0 in Manhattan during football season, you certainly don't hear about KSU losing badly in Manhattan in any sport really.. WSU could of made it an ugly game in 15th inning also, but didn't appear to be interested in doing so, and at that point I don't think anyone wearing purple in that stadium had the energy to care about WSU putting 22 runs on them, unlike in the 3th inning. It was a fun game to watch.
