Fire Gene Stephenson

We need some new blood and new life. One of the most difficult things in sports is replacing a legend. You hope it never comes to this point and the legend themselves see the writing on the wall and step aside. Unfortunately it doesn't always happen that way. I will always be appreciative of what Gene was able to accomplish but the results over the past five years speak for themselves. Without two MVC Tournament titles we would be looking at a five year postseason drought. In my mind we should at least be in a position to get an at large bid a minimum of three out of five seasons and we haven't really even been close to an at large candidate for over half a decade. That's unacceptable thus it's time for a change.

But the good news is this: Regardless of the outcome, it will be a good one for WSU baseball (unless there is a more than two year extension or large salary increase).

If he resigns on good terms, it's a happy day for all.

If he convinces ADES to keep him on for a short two year transition, it's a happy day for all.

If he goes out with a fight, but they just can't come to terms, it's a very sad end to an awesome era of WSU baseball, but ultimately the right result to usher in the next era of WSU baseball.

I wonder if the chair on the other side of Gene's desk is an inch lower than his. I actually worked with a guy for a short time who did that.

I was at WSU when Gene started the program. I saw the great years. I will be very sad if this is the end of GS. I will be disappointed and sad if he is forced out. I for one will be heart broken. I would like him to go out on his own terms as long as they are reasonable.

I like the coach in waiting type deal.. let Gene finish his last year on the contract.
JT is fired
kiminetz (sp?) works as pitching coach for another year.
New coach decides on him after next year.

Salary reduction for all including new coach.
