I wouldn't think so Doc. This certainly not an easy decision or situation to deal with. There are so many conflicting thoughts to sort through in dealing with Gene.

I think about the only consensus is that Gene should shake up his coaching staff, specifically JT. But the time for that may have passed.

        LOL at that.
In related news, it was rumored that Coach Gregg Marshall and Asst. Coach Chris Jans met tooday at noon. While not confirmed by anyone at the meeting, they allegedly discussed what they were going to have for lunch.

Count me as one of the ones like yourself and 1972. There are more than a few angles to each side.

No good sir you are not.

I think Johnny Coy said it best.

...His teams might not be what they were from 1980-2008 these past couple of years but we were still at the top of the conference every one of those years. '10, '11 and '12 we were all a game or two away from making regionals...
Even though yes his teams have not been what they have been. Even those the results have not been what I'm sure Gene would want. They have not fallin' so low. We are still competitive to make the NCAA each and every year.

Do we keep what we have, hoping to get back to where we were, knowing the college baseball landscape has changed?

Do we make the change, hoping that it's new blood that is needed to raise this program once again? Knowing that change can either be the resurrection or destruction of something that has been great for so many years.

Reading this thread and the message from Coy got me thinking...

However, unless a long-term commitment is going to be made, this has to be it. Allowing an additional year only further hurts the abilities of anyone to recruit to WSU - something that I think is a near-consensus as being the major failure of this staff in the past few years. One more year for Gene sets the program back three.

I am torn. I don't think there is a clear right answer.

It would be great if the on-field performance was much better and that Gene would lose some of his hard headedness.

Hey we old people have a constitutional right to be hard headed. You take that away and pretty soon your taking other rights away it just becomes a very slippery slope.

                    • Is the Kemnitz-to-head-coach scenario a possibility?
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

I hope not. The crew that is there currently has done a fine job up until recent. It is simply time to start over and clean house. However, they can keep Shane Dennis. I like listening to him on the radio :)

No. I'm wavering like a boson particle.

But the good news is this: Regardless of the outcome, it will be a good one for WSU baseball (unless there is a more than two year extension or large salary increase).

If he resigns on good terms, it's a happy day for all.

If he convinces ADES to keep him on for a short two year transition, it's a happy day for all.

If he goes out with a fight, but they just can't come to terms, it's a very sad end to an awesome era of WSU baseball, but ultimately the right result to usher in the next era of WSU baseball.

My guess is that it is not even on the radar. That ship sailed for good during the OU debacle, but was always a suspect one, even back in the day.
