A labor of love for so long, but one man is not bigger than the whole program...even if he did build it - he was not alone. It was a good long run, and I wish it could just be passing the torch to the next generation...NOT trying to bring the whole thing down when you go. If it is all about the program and not the creator, this will not happen.

Apparently Gene's future is still "up in the air." Sexton isn't gaining any points so far.

In my opinion, if this ends badly it will be because of Gene's ego and stubborness, not Eric's doing. It is a sad day for sure. No one person is bigger than the program. He has done great things for this university and he should be recognized accordingly. If Gene will just cooperate and do what is the right thing, his legacy will be intact. If he doesn't, I don't blame anyone but Gene.

Unfortunately Gene's stubbornness and ego is probably going to cause him to go out in a ball of flames with no concern for the program. Albeit likely inadvertent on his part as in his mind the program is in great shape and he sees no reason for anyone to be disappointed.
