Gene will be back. He'll convince the AD that with the young guys we got now and the incoming class, he'll be granted one more year to see if he can turn things around. You can take that to the bank.

I expect that Gene will complete the final two years on his contract. Not sure what the succession plan is, if any. Perhaps the plan is to simply turn the keys over to Brent. There is really nothing to be pumped about regarding the state of Shocker baseball right now, with or with out sunshine.

We've talked about how much it would cost to fire Gene (buyout, etc.).
I am curious how much it is costing us not to fire him. Season ticket sales, concessions, etc. have to be going down the tubes fast. Next year and the year after will presumably only get worse from a revenue standpoint.
Pulling the trigger may not be as expensive as we think.

30 years and 2 championships didn't give Denny Crum the right to hang on for perpetuity like a Supreme Court justice.
I'm appreciative for what Gene's done, but my loyalty lies to WSU (not to him). The minute that his interests and ours quit alligning is the same minute that I support going another direction. That minute came and went a while ago.
Plus I think his adulterous ski trip injury will keep him from doing any Jake Blues back handsprings at the reverend's service.

I have to wonder if Terry Elliot or Shane Dennis would have an interesting in coaching the Shox. In listening to them on the radio, it's obvious they both have great baseball minds. I'd have no problem with either of them running the program. Also gotta think about Mark Standiford. However we are jumping the gun, because we know the chances of Gene being gone within the next 2 years is slim to none, and I'm afraid slim just walked out the door.

Its time. Quit talking about next year or the year after. It is not going to happen!
That said, Wichita State Baseball ain't what it used to be, but what did it used to be? In terms of getting guys in the program who had the baseball talent to make it as professionals, is WSU today that far off of it's historical pace?I think Pringles original intention was to make tennis balls... but on the day the rubber was supposed to show up a truckload of potatoes came. Pringles is a laid-back company, so they just said, "**** it, cut em up!" - MH

Won a National Championship (and was a threat to win again)
Was considered the Winnngest NCAA Division I program (now they are below 0.500 in the MVC)
7 CWS Appearances in 15 year period (They have not been to CWS in 15 years)
27 NCAA Appearances, where they had a streak of 14 appearances in row - Now they have not made it 2 in row, and probability it will be 3 years.
