So did this guy, but he did okay and added the facial hair later.

Looks like he committed to St. Bonaventure last August and signed with St. Bonaventure in November.

Not sure what was behind his decommitting. Must have caught the eye of recruiters at the showcases since then.

BTW, not saying he will be another Mike Pelfrey. That's unlikely, but who knows. I would take a right-handed version a Payton Tolle the pitcher.

So you can just snap your fingers and get out of a letter of intent now?

I think you still need a release but most schools and coaches who don't grant releases seem to get raked over the coals so in most cases it seems like the releases are just becoming a formality. With the freedom of player movement seeming to be the end all and be all of college athletics these days suppose that is understandable.

        • Right on cue.....HCBG talked about the size of ballparks around the league and how important speed is, how they haven't been able to run enough and how we're a little too left heavy on the roster and that these things will be addressed in recruiting.

And here is a guy, right handed hitter, OF, batter .374 and 28-30 this year stealing. Pretty much checks every box Skip was talking about.

          • Seems like a lot of the lack of running has been as much by choice as anything else. But perhaps everyone on the team is slow.

              • 11 strikeouts in 146 plate appearances for Davis Mauzy so far this season. Based on his location it would appear Coach Green was probably recruiting him while still at Washington State.

For reference, mlb average is around 6.8. So ya pretty elite!
