  • Can we win a National Championship, and then fire Butler?

    Seems ideal.

    • Really proud of these guys. It’s just hope now with the lack of pitching but Peters will give it a go tomorrow. Who knows? UConn is really solid and very well coached but they’re a team of mouthy punks. Love to see our guys give them hell tomorrow.

Are you in attendance at the Tournament Doc?

Connery certainly has good enough stuff to be capable of giving the Shocks 5 or 6 innings tomorrow. UConn's offense is not really too scary. Now if we get past UConn in the 1st game tomorrow the 2nd game could be a bit of a challenge pitching-wise. Snavely hasn't thrown much this week. Probably would get a start in a 2nd game tomorrow.

If the Shocks get to the Championship game I assume McGinness will get the ball.

Shocks showing they can score runs.

Yes sir. I have friends in the area and it's a nice easy getaway. I also have a business contact here that I needed to see. Otherwise I can be here and just sit back and watch baseball without having to talk to anyone or do anything, Very relaxing although it's brutally hot here this year. Apparently the high pressure causing the heat here is creating the recurring storms back home. Sorry about that.

Connery has shown talent no doubt, but couldn't get out of the 1st against USF last weekend. Snavely is better starting than out of the bullpen imho. It's just a guess, but I assume we'll go with Peters and hope for 6 or so, then Lindemann, Segal and Walters an inning each. That likely allows for those 3 again in game 2. I realize that's incredibly Pollyannaish but it would be ideal. Then maybe give Snavely a shot to start game 2. That would leave Stumpy as a long relief guy if needed. But at that point we talking about guys we can't rely on at all based on results lately, or ever. Best case I suppose for a game 2 would be Snavely as much as he can give, probably 3 at most, then Stumpy for 1 or 2 at most, then Marley, Haase (who has unraveled all of a sudden), Lindemann, Segal and Walters an inning each, but again, that's relying on a BUNCH of arms that have been all but completely unreliable for some time.

It's going to be a huge mountain to climb, to say the least, but if somehow these kids manage to get to Sunday, we're going to the NCAA's with Clayton. He's NOT losing Sunday.

The other thing nobody has talked about is Cadena who has given EVERYTHING behind the dish. The kid is a warrior and he's beat. I don't know how he's going to catch 2 games tomorrow, but he'll have to be dragged away on a stretcher before he lets himself be taken out. Unreal effort from him.

    • Maybe this Shocker team just needed some nice, warm weather to get going.

No back-to-back champ but a repeating pattern is still in play.

The previous 5 champions were Houston, ECU, UConn, Houston and ECU. With UConn still alive at 2-0 that pattern is still in play.

            • Connery Peters as anticipated gets the start for the Shocks. Jimmy Wang starts for UConn.

In the top of the 1st Luke Ritter is hit by a pitch with 1 out and Mason O'Brien continues his en fuego hitting with a double down the right field line to put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Paxton Wallace walks to load the bases. Another great big inning opportunity for the Shocks.

Ross Cadena grounds into a 4-6 force out but UConn can't turn the double play and Luke scores to give the Shocks a 1-0 lead. Brady Slavens strikes out to end the inning. Good start for the Shocks but UConn probably feels fortunated to escape with only a 1 run deficit.

                    Yes.

                • Shocks get a run in the 1st and Connery works around a 1out single, 1-0 Shocks after 1.

                  • UConn pulled their starting pitcher in the second. That's unusual isn't it? Sorry, I don't know squat.

Not the most common thing but not all that unusual where the starter is not very effective. UConn not wanting to let the game get out of hand like the Shockers game with ECU yesterday.

                  • In the 2nd Shocks starting out same as the first. 1 out free pass to Jacob Katzfey followed by a double by David VanVooren putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out.

That result in an early exit for the UConn starter Jimmy Wang.

Top of the order up for the Shocks. Jordan Boyer at bat, Luke Ritter on Deck, Mason O'Brien in the hole.

Boyer grounded out to SS with the runners holding.

Wild pitch scores Katzfey . VanVooren to 3rd.

Ritter fouled out to end the inning.

Shocks lead 2-0 but again UConn has to be feeling fortunate that it isn't a much bigger deficit.
