    3. I think Zack Beringer will have a solid year.

    4. Minnis finished strong in the valley tourney, can he have a solid sophomore season?

    5. McGreevy threw well most of the season, hopefully he can continue that next year

    6. Aaron Labrie could be another Josh Smith, when you look at the numbers he had a really solid freshman season.

    7. Seems like I heard a lot about Kris Gardner during fall (maybe I'm mixing things up 6 months later). I don't know what kind of injury he had and he is slated to play for el dorado this summer, may be someone who can contribute next year.

There are others as well, my concern isn't the pitching. It's all about the HITTING.
    1. No
    2. I like the chances of Brent turning this guy into a solid contributor as well.
    3. I wholeheartedly agree. Love this kid's makeup.
    4. If they can get Albert's early control problem corrected, which I think they will, then he's good to go.
    5. I am not as high on McGreevy but I can't argue the numbers.
    6. Ditto on Aaron, but I do think he can be a good set up type guy. Love the way he pitched at times.
    7. Wish I knew, but I have no idea.
    8. I share your main concern but we all need to realize that next year's team, barring a yet unknown change, has no Charlie Lowell, Tim Kelly or any other #1 guy that we've been so lucky to roll out for the last couple of decades.
1.) Elam Will be the closer until he gets drafted
2.) I also like Brent's ability to harness this guys control
3.) Beringer was a pleasant surprise and good thinks to come
4.) Minnis will improve over the summer and fall with game experience.
5.) I am high on Mcgreevey and feel that he slides in to the rotation and keeps improving.
6.) Labrie could be in the mix for the rotation
    7.) ?
8.) The entire team has concerns

My biggest question is how can we have so much talent on the roster that gets drafted as high and as often as our players do and not win the valley and completely under perform? We just are not doing enough with our talent. There is a definite lack in development and that is a huge concern.

McGreevey really came on later in the year when he gained confidence in and command of his change-up.

Whether or not he can become a starter or is best suited as a one-time through the lineup guy remains to be seen.

If Albert can command his pitches and stay down in the strike zone to take advantage of his natural sink then he can get guys out.

Zach looks like he is ready to be a steady weekend presence.

I agree that Cale will remain as our closer.

I think Josh, Mitch and Chance are on the bubble. They could go either way as a far as coming back vs signing pro.

Josh is solid but not dominating. Mitch and Chance both apparently have strong enough arms to entice the pros but haven't consistently proven it on the field yet.

Hard to predict how any of the other guys and the newcomers will do next spring.

As Doc say it is difficult to project a dominant No. 1 starter, let alone a solid 2, 3, etc. at this point.

Yes, hitting/offense is a big issue going into next year, but the pitching is by no means a worry-free aspect of this team either at this point.

Rounds 31-40 (1,231 players taken) are in the books. No additional Shockers were taken.

Also, our recruiting class continues to be unscathed. Again whether that is a good thing or a bad thing I'm not sure.

I was kind of hoping to see some of our guys taken past round 20, just to provide some validation of their abilities. Though I wonder just how much players taken in those rounds have been scouted in person by those taking them.

Unfortunately, we may be getting some validation of their abilities or at least validation of their pro potential or lack thereof.

Hopefully, what we end up with next year is a roster full of motivated overachievers.

Signability can also be an issue with players taken in the later rounds. If they know a kid is committed to college they may not waste a draft pick on them in these late rounds.

                Ding, ding, ding.

Johnny Coy to the Toronto in Round 45 (#1369).

A long way from the 7th round pick out of high school.

                      What does this comment mean?

We don't know what sort of conversations he has had. Maybe he made it clear he was coming back. Last year he was draft eligible, was a freshman all-american and wasn't even drafted (at least I think he wasn't). My understanding was he made it clear he was going back to school. So maybe thats what took place again this year.

He could very easily have a solid season next year. I'm hoping the 3rd time is the charm much like it was for COB this year and how it was for Lassley and Bascue after not doing much thier first few seasons. Except Coy has averaged 47 RBI his first two years.

                        Johnny Coy

Toronto called Johnny at 9:00 am the morning of the 2nd day of the draft. I believe 2 rounds were completed. They wanted to know exactly what it would take to sign him. Johnny was advised not to give a specific dollar figure to any team. He has stated all year to scouts that it would AT LEAST take top 5 round money for him to sign, but that wasn't even a guarantee. He enjoys playing at Wichita State and obviously would benefit from another year of college baseball. Everyone knows this year was a very tough season for Johnny, but he still managed to make 1st Team All-Conference and had 59 rbi as a sophomore. He expects to have a breakout season at WSU next year. Toronto did call after drafting him and told him they will watch him very closely in the Cape this summer.

The comment means that JC fell a long way from a 7th round draft pick out of high school. Which I suppose could have been left unsaid.

Yes, let's hope that is exactly what happens. JC will be very instrumental in how the Shocks go next year (assuming he doesn't tear up the Cape this Summer and attracts the kind of money he wants to sign).

Final Shocker Draft List (assuming I did not miss anyone):

                                5/175 - Tyler Grimes - Twins
                                6/193 - Charlie Lowell - Marlins
                                7/227 - Brian Flynn - Detroit
                                18/554 - Chris O'Brien - Dodgers
                                21/654 - Chance Sossamon - Rangers
                                25/767 - Mitch Mormann - Detroit
                                26/791 - Josh Smith - Brewers
                                45/1369 - Johnny Coy - Bluejays
                                45/1381 - A.J. Ladwig - Phillies

Tim Kelley goes undrafted. I'm sure he will get his shot through free agency but that injury was really costly for Tim. Feel bad for him.

Now we wait to see what happens over the next 68 days.

Grimes, Lowell, Flynn and O'Brien are surely gone. Sossamon, Mormann and Smith would seem to be on the bubble. Coy and Ladwig will probably be in Shocker uniforms next year but you never know for sure.
