Could be some second thoughts about passing on that opportunity, but hindsight is easy.

          Maybe...

He is only a sophomore, had a down year but not bad. Look at say COB last year to this year.

Wouldn't shock me next year if JC has .350/15/65 type season. Also wouldn't shock me if he has another .275/7/55 type season. Just depends really, he has had a couple of good summers, the potential is there and he is only a sophomore. So he has time to make good impressions.

So is there a reasonable point to which we might expect O'Brien and Coy to come back next year? Of course we are well aware that if they have a great summer, they could be offered earlier round money.

I suppose it would also depend on who drafted them as well.

Just have to wait out the summer regardless of where they are drafted. Scott Schebler the guy from Des Moines juco who would have helped out big time this year was drafted in the early 20's (round wise) last year after hitting well over .400 and 22 bombs for his juco team. Thought he was safe, then had a great summer in the northern league, took the money and ran. The shox SS from a few years back is another great example.

So until Aug 15th has come and gone, it really doesn't matter where taken.

That's a quite a bit later than I was expecting but I think Chris will probably sign. It would be very difficult for him to come back and equal or top his production from this year and, of course, you lose a lot of leverage as a Senior.

So why wasn't Chris drafted earlier? Obviously he was the best hitter on the team. I didn't get to watch any games in person this year, and don't know about his catching or ability to throw out base stealers.

Tim Kelley's arm injury may prove to cost him more than a few bucks.

Very unfortunate not only for the Shocks but for Tim.

IDK, I will say that while waiting to view Dirks homer on the tigers highlight video I heard them talking about their draft of McCann, a catcher from Arkansas, and it was mentioned that the pool of quality catchers is very thin this draft. Not saying that means COB is considered a poor catcher, just saying that apparently this is a down year for catchers in general.

I'm not sure what the pros value the most in their catchers. My guess is perhaps arm strength is an issue and perhaps questions about Chris's power. Do they think he is more of a gap hitter? Hard to say. Plus team's draft to needs. Pitching will always be #1. Perhaps power potential #2. Speed #3.

No doubt they like their SS to be strong-armed (which probably accounts for Tyler's strong draft).

Congrats to Tyler! I hope he does well. I am going to miss him (and his family).
