    Who replaced him?

There can't be a lot of Major League .260 hitters in the Minors.

The Tigers getting Delmon Young gave them 5 outfielders and with Inge coming back up, Dirks or Jackson was going back down. Also, the multi-millon dollar contracts for Young, Ordonez, and Inge probably win out over a newbie doing well, but not great.

He was hitting the league average. So nothing wrong with that.

Absolutely. It wasn't what Dirks did, but what he didn't do. He didn't do well enough to put more separation between him and Jackson, didn't do well enough for the Tigers to not trade for Young, and didn't do well enough for Detroit to keep Inge down and make them eat his contract. After getting Young, somebody was going down or staying down.

I think he did enough to to make somebodies MLB roster for next year though.

Very true, ShockTalk. Outfield is a position where offense is a prerequisite. Hitting the league average isn't good enough for an outfielder trying to prove himself, especially one who came in without great fanfare and has simply worked his way up.

Dirks is a good player who could very well have a career comparable to Casey Blake's if he gets the chance, but the more he can make himself stand out (as opposed to being average), the better.

Dirks was 0-3 with one K and was lifted for a pinch hitter.

Gillespie pinch hit and grounded out to first.

Dirks is pretty early in his MLB career. If the Tigers don't want to put him in the Majors next year I'm betting that some one else will via trade.

I am glad to see that Dirks return to the majors was very quick.

Nice to see both of these guys back in the show.

Andy leads off the bottom of the 4th with ground rule double. Moves to 3rd on a ground out and scores on single in Tigers 3-2 win.
