NBC News: "The FBI Has Arrested Several NCAA Assistant Basketball Coaches"

Can't help but think that if the NCAA said every player gets paid $1, some schools would find a way to funnel them $2. If the NCAA says $2, they'll end up with $4. Of course you still have to take care of the AAC coaches.............big sigh.Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

Perhaps that's true for a good portion of the NCAA D-1 teams but I don't see that being the case with most P-5 teams.
As far as your last point I think the size of the pie would remain about the same which would include whatever amount of money is circulating through the system under the table and off the official grid. However, I think the way the pie is sliced and diced could change signficantly. It is also possible that P-5 separates from the NCAA and the pie becomes more concentrated in their favor.

With all the 4 and 5 star players Alabama has signed the last couple seasons, somebody is getting paid. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

Read this bunch of crap a VCU fan posted on the rivals board...
It's funny you have these two. VCU and WSU had the opportunity to setup a H&H after the Bracketbuster series of 2011-2012 and Shaka refused. Recruit Carl Hall committed verbally to VCU: https://www.vcuramnation.com/2010/09...man-carl-hall/
What happened after is "hearsay", but has legs. Hall switched to Wichita State at the last second, there was speculation it had to do with $$.
All we know for sure, is that Shaka refused to schedule a H&H that WSU was asking for. Shaka's demeanor on the sideline clearly showed he didn't like Marshall. WSU then took our fight song too. It's a nice "sort of" rivalry, that always has close games (2011 BB, 2012 NCAA tourney, 2012-2013 return BB game)

Those athletes aren't swimming in the money that ESPN is promising these basketball players they are worth. In fact, I'd wager they are making significantly less than the benefits college students receive (free room and board and tuition as a baseline).
The gap between the rich and the poor, even in the current system seems to be growing and there is a very real potential for that to get even worse depending on what the so-called Power Conferences do and how the media values and approaches things.

The widespread and ongoing federal investigation into bribery and fraud in college basketball, which led to an Adidas executive's arrest Tuesday, apparently is now spreading to Nike.
"Employees of Nike's EYBL grassroots division, along with documents, have been subpoenaed by FBI in furtherance ofinvestigation," attorney and Forbes contributor Darren Heitner tweeted Wednesday afternoon, citing unidentified sources.
