The dad seems like a really smart guy and he seems fairly principled. He also seems right. And they are going to have a tough time escaping the reality he is confronting them with.

Even if we were ever as dirty as this year's KU team, that's like saying we aren't allowed to say Drake is bad at basketball because we were bad in the 90s.
Moreover, teams that get punished for their actions can definitely "throw stones" at the teams that do the same crap but nothing ever happens to them.

At WSU a recruit borrowed a jacket and forgot to return it before getting on the plane and a high school counted a Phys Ed class as part of a recruit's GPA to make a player eligible for a dsholarship. We got 2 years of no post-season play - when we had a #1 or #2 ranked team.
At North Carolina, an athlete can get several hours of A for making a copy of a paper that's been floating around in the athletic department for 15 years, and the NCAA does nothing.
With absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing, Roy Williams went to the NCAA and said he was certain WSU did something illegal in the recruitment of Maurice Evans. That's all the NCAA needed to send a couple guys down to Wichita and spend a couple of weeks looking for anything and everything they could hit WSU with. They found a couple of practices that had gone a few minutes too long.
The playing field is far from level. KU got hit with several violation WHILE THEY WERE ON PROBATION for lack of institutional controls. They break rules and instead of getting a violation, they get told not to do it again. When they do it again they get told "Hey, we really mean it, (wink, wink) stop doing that", but they don't get penalties. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

How does a 19 year old kid get representation from a "boutique and real estate private equity" firm? There's only one real answer.
To say nothing of how he's supposedly paying for it.
If the NCAA had any desire to enforce rules across the board, lack of institutional control runs rampant in Lawlessnessrence.
Random Compliance Person at any school: Hey Josh, I see you're in the paper again. Sure have a lot of free time on your hands for a student athlete.
Josh: Um, yeah. Ya know, managin' my time.
CO: That's great. So how did you get in touch with the private equities guy?
Josh: Talk to my mom.
CO: Yeah Josh you're an adult and a student athlete here. We have to talk to you.
Josh: Coach said to call Doug, he'll take care of it. Can I go? Me and Vick gotta "wash" his girlfriend's ride.
CO: Don't you have class now Josh?
Josh: Say what?

If you can find the SI article prior to the investigation, there's some good stuff in there! None of it was found to be true, but crazy accusations.Livin the dream
