If the SEC could convince North Carolina and Virginia to join, them, an implosion of the Big 12 would prove catastrophic for its current members. Under such a scenario IMO the B1G would make a run to capture UNC and UVA if they exhibited a willingness to leave the ACC. Texas and OU would be recruited by the B1G and the PAC 12 leaving all other Big 12 members at risk.

KU would have the most cache of the remaining Big 12 schools but as a basketball only school would the B1G want them more than a fellow basketball dominated university such as the UCONN Huskies given the superior success of the Huskies in winning Men and Women NCAA Basketball Championships? If not, then KU would be left to join a non-P4 conference.

The B12 doesn't have any attractive adds that would get them a juicy TV contract. KU, Iowa State, Baylor, even KSU aren't big TV draws.

KU can provide the KC market for basketball, but basketball is a passenger, not the driver, on this bus. KU's significance in providing the KC market for football is about equal to Loyola's ability to deliver the Chicago market for basketball.

Here's the butrning question: If KU ends up not in a power conference, can they keep their basketball at the level it's at now?

          Yes.

But it would be difficult. In reality, if realignment happened and KU was left at the alter, the MWC would be mutually beneficial and allow KU to keep a high profile in basketball. The loss in revenue would keep KU football in the gutter, though. Yes, hard to believe, but KU could downgrade conferences without improving football results.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

NBE might bend and take KU as a public, but not Iowa State.

I wonder what KU's record would be at the end of a season played in the MVFC at the FCS level... :)

We at least know there would be one win over MoSt, but after that?

Considering the ramifications of them not ending up in a power conference, it's amazing that they've gotten themselves into this situation. I don't think it would matter if they could stay good in basketball.. Imagine Lawrence and the KU fan base if they ended up in the A-10. Lol. AFH crowds would be half the size just because the power conference mantra would be gone. Lawrence would possibly lose it's reputation of a college town.

Last I heard, the Longhorn Network was still hemorrhaging.
Good thing not a ton of Nebraskans read this. They would have a big hissy fit if Texas joined the B1G+2. Oh I can hear the complaining now. It would be quite miserable for months.

Imploded Big 12 Probability of Realignment -

                    >90% - Oklahoma to SEC

                    >80% - Texas to PAC 12

                    >40% - Oklahoma State to SEC; Texas Tech to PAC 12

                    >20% - Kansas to B1G

I dont know. There was bad blood, but mostly because Texas bullied to get everything they wanted and Nebraska was the only school that tried to stop them. The B1G doesn't operate like the Big 12, no school is more important than any other and if Texas joined, they would be treated as equals, I think Nebraska fans could live with that. I don't know that Texas would accept being considered an equal.

Bill Snyder has talked about how Texas steamrolled the Big 12 and that maybe the original Big 8 schools should have risen up and stopped them. That decisions made by the original eight schools on several key issues, including partial qualifiers, location of the league office, media rights, championship locations and others, did nothing but hurt everyone to the benefit of Texas. Those were some of the decisions that fell on 11-1 votes against Nebraska. The B1G won't act that way, so I don't see Husker fans being too upset.

As for Snyder, I don't know how accurate he is, he also said Nebraska regrets their decision to leave, while a very small fraction of fans might feel that way, he couldn't be further from the truth.

Bill Snyder might regret Nebraska leaving, but yeah, not too many Cornhuskers pining for the Big XII days.

I long for implosion of the Big 12 coupled with the following realignment scenario -

                            1. B1G poaches UNC and UVA from the ACC to arrive at 16 members

                            2. ACC poaches UCONN, Temple, Cincinnati and South Florida from the AAC to arrive at 16 members

                            3. SEC poaches OU and OSU from the Big 12 to arrive at 16 members

                            4. PAC poaches UT and TTU from Big 12, Houston from the AAC and UNM from Mountain West to arrive at 16 members

The Beakers and the Shockers receive invitations from the AAC and Mountain West

                              That.

                              Could.

You need to take this rumor, since now the idea has been floated and technically published, and tell everyone on MVCfans that the Shockers are moving to the AAC. Or the MWC.

Using Missouri State logic, where there's smoke....
