    Big whoop...

Our baseball program is in near-shambles, and I'd have to assume playing in the NBE has made the habitually mediocre CU baseball program even more so.

That's utterly ridiculous. Creighton has no engineering school, and an unimpressive, tiny business school, so what exactly are those Blowjays majoring in at the undergrad level that makes any sense whatsoever in an ROI context? Seriously... I'm all ears.

Private college tuition makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER when you sit down and look at the numbers from a TVM perspective. Every single student at CU would be far better off at retirement if someone just stuck that $180K in a safe, long-term investment vehicle, and sent their butts on down the line to UNO or UNL for that history or communications degree.

Not that it makes it less of a ripoff, but tuition is what MVJ was referencing. You are referencing total cost of attendance, which factors in room/board and other expenses. The two are very different since "other expenses" usually total anywhere from $10k to $19k depending on location of the school and whether junior can continue to sponge on pop's health insurance. CU projects the average "other costs" to be ~14k per student.

Tuition and fees at 36k is a terrible deal for a meh school in the midwest. It is slightly less terrible if you can live at home while going there.

OOS tuition and fees at WSU for a student taking 30 credit hours has risen to ~21k, FWIW. That does not include room/board or anything else. Not exactly dirt cheap.

Of course, we are ignoring scholarship and need based aid, which can quickly turn a "horrible deal" into a "steal" at the drop of a hat. But this stuff ain't cheap. Old farts had it pretty darn good on an inflation adjusted basis (unless, that is, they are offering to pay their grandkids' tuition now :) )

And let me continue the derailment. One of the things that Creighton has is a good medical school. I had a surgeon operate on me (here in Houston) and he did a fantastic job on a situation that other specialists had advised me was a difficult surgery.

I told him before he operated that I hoped he wouldn't hold the fact that I was a big shocker fan against me. We both got a good laugh out of that.

          • My doctor in Hutchinson is a CU med school grad. He's a good guy.

I am aware I don't have to click on the thread. The problem I have is seeing SCUM basketball popping up on the main thread daily. It makes me want to barf.

                  • People generally have more pride and allegiance to their undergrad school, than where they do grad school/med school/vet school/law school, etc. A lot of the time they have no allegiances at all to where they do grad work. My wife has a childhood friend who is a CU med grad. The girl might possibly struggle to tell you what the CU mascot is, if you asked. However, she could likely tell you the entire starting offense and defense for the Husker football team - her undergrad alma mater.

And @Play Angry:, your $21K OOS tuition figure is for grad work at WSU, not undergrad. For 30 hours of OOS undergrad tuition is more like $15K. Simple mistake.

If a thread on a Shocker fan message board making fun of the demise of a former rival makes you want to barf, maybe you need a tougher stomach.

Seriously, the "Hey everyone, please adjust everything you do to accommodate ME" attitude of some is just beyond irritating. Nobody is being offensive or out of line here. It is simply some lighthearted humor. The word "tolerate" is way overused in today's society, but in this case, it actually applies. If you don't like it, don't read it. As for it showing on the main page, if you are an adult, tolerating something so minor as seeing the thread title shouldn't be too much to ask.

                      Dang Thread Naz.... Ahhh, nevermind.

                        • I wasn't clear about my point, but here it is. I would think there would be preference given to Creighton undergrads going to the medical school (maybe not much of a break, given the competition for getting into a good medical school), but all other things being equal, it might sway the scale.

That being said, I agree about the $36K being a meh deal. I have an acquaintance who sent his daughter to Georgetown to study architecture (just for reference, my kid went to U of H). From the numbers being thrown around here and looking at Yahoo, it is about $44K per year to go to Georgetown.

I think I'd say to hell with Creighton, we're going to Georgetown (unless I was a premed).

Creighton has a lot of lawyers and doctors. Yes not undergrad programs but that is the academic fields they are known for in these parts.
