          • There is plenty of blame to go around when it comes to enforcement and securing of the borders. This is the "SWAMP" we are talking about.

We continue to allow practically unfettered access to America for the poor from Central America and Mexico and we continue to allow the drug cartels easy access too . This definitely affects our economic "safety net" for all Americans (and now illegal immigrants) of Social Security, Medicare, medicaid, food stamps, and other social programs for the impoverished and middle class. Remember this "fight" when the time comes for these programs cannot sustain themselves. At this time, we are in pretty good shape when compared to Europe but we are catching up with them. The middle class is already going down the drain (disappearing), and this will continue with rising taxes as we allow the impoverished to cross or borders without any standards.

Remember Milton Friedman's prediction (from the 1980's during our last Amnesty). " You can have Open Borders or you can have a Safety Net but you can't have both."

Where was this guy's tears 3 years ago? Partisanship has nothing to do with it... They hate him, plain and simple.

Since everyone's been digging into their concordance of late it seems, primarily the snowflakes at that, which reeks of insincerity, here's another one: God don't like ugly.

... Next (it's your move hollywood)!

              • Here’s the thing...this issue was created by the unintended consequence of a reasonable law. There is an opportunity to correct it rather simply, and the two parties need to get together to make that happen yet this week.

See Shockm post above. Big social safety net and open borders don't mix. One or the other would need to go. I am a believer in the social safety net. We need to make legal immigration much easier and illegal immigration much harder or we will end up like Japan with a bunch of old people and not enough workers to pay for the entitlements.

Open borders means no country. The Mexican flag will be flying over our Capitols. No assimilation. No common language. Higher spending on education. Lots more poverty. Sounds like a winning formula. Did you know that the Mexican president campaigned in a number of our states to get the Mexican citizens in the US to vote for him in Mexican elections.

Illeagal immigrants pay ~ $12 billion in taxes annually, but cost between $40 and $300 billion per year.

"Based on the age of arrival and education, immigrants with less than a high school degree who entered before their 24th birthday pay more in taxes than they receive in benefits. Illegal immigrants are potentially even better for public budgets in the short run because their consumption of government benefits is more curtailed than their tax payments (including the incidence of taxation) due to their legal status. Illegal immigrants do not likely consume more in tax benefits than they pay in taxes but, if they do, the figure is small."

The immigration debate deserves higher quality research than the recent FAIR report.

Open borders... essentially all third world countries have open borders. You only need borders when you have something inside worth limiting access to. It's the most basic of economic concepts that the Dems are willing to violate for short-term domination at the polls. In this respect, it is accurate to say that Dems hate America...

Open borders implies there are no illegal aliens. Democrats are behind the open border movement. The second America opens its southern border unleashing a tidal wave of democratic voters, is the same second this once proud country suffers its second civil war...

President Trump has griped for years – without any proof – that undocumented immigrants vote in American elections regularly, often enough to change their outcomes. He claimed after losing the popu…

San Francisco in 2016 passed the local Proposition N, allowing non-citizens to vote in school board elections regardless of their immigration status. The idea received 54-46 percent backing in that city, which in this century has also pioneered concepts like same-sex marriage and universal health care.

Non-citizens will vote legally for the first time in November, and can continue participating in school board elections for at least the next four years.

I have two comments: # 4; CATO states that the children of illegal immigrants shouldn’t count in the cost and therefore deduct 12.3 billion. I don’t have any idea why you wouldn’t count this. #6, CATO states that the immigrants cause an increase in housing costs which creates revenue from other people’s houses. I’m sorry, but that revenue is paid by legal folks to cover the cost of infrastructure that wouldn’t be necessary if the illegals weren’t here. That’s another 11.2 billion.

Thats $23.5 billion over the estimated cost of $3-15 billion (it’s not clear to me why they have a $12 billion spread).

Where I agree with this article is that it there were no illegals, we would still have to pay for border protection. That probably shouldn’t be counted. Cost is 12 billion.

The other differences are in how you calculate the cost/benefit of the children born in the US to illegals, whether or not you count the social security paid by the employer, and the assumptions made in number and participation in the economy. I would say those are open and I’m not going to argue guesstimates as I am woefully under informed.

In the end, the cost of illegals is in the tens of billions per year at a minimum.
