Not similar. We have someone in this case under oath saying they were directed by the candidate. In this case we have him in tape discussing it. That did not exist in the Edwards case which is why they couldn't get a conviction.

I never said it had anything to do with Russia, why'd you bring it up? Unless you wanna be like one of these parrots who think that investigators shouldn't pursue other crimes that are discovered in process. If someone busts in your window and while talking to neighbors a police officer finds a dead body in the house you think they should just walk away because it's not what they were supposed to investigate?

    • So after a busy day I check my phone for news. CNN has an article about how THIS is the DARKEST HOUR of the Trump presidency. I'm intrigued (not really). So I click and read. The author was hysterical barely able to control his glee. Donald Trump's lawyer has admitted he paid some pornographers to be quiet during the election and Trump paid him back. The article stated that Trump LIED TO THE PRESS about knowing anything about the payments or what he told his lawyer to do.

Why does this seem like the biggest Nothingburger in the history of Nothingburgers? Trump, a billionaire wannabee playboy bangs a few sluts during the last couple decades. His attorney, whom he retains to clean up his messes and keep his family and the public in the dark about his private affairs, does what he is supposed to do and then bills Trump for his efforts. Now I'm supposed to believe this is some kind of presidential/constitutional/American OMGWTFBBQ crisis? When did it become illegal to pay a whore to keep her mouth shut about her whorish activities? What would be the point of admitting to the press that you paid hush money when the entire point was to keep it hushed?

Don't bother responding in pedantic legalistic prose. Only common sense responses are sought.

      • Bingo. It'll have to take more than just he said/she said... to get the President impeached.

When did it become illegal? Probably since campaign laws have existed but I'm not a historian.

Also yes, calling her a whore... Is Donnie a whore too? Where's your disdain for him? A man who cheated on his pregnant wife.

Why does it seem like a nothing burger to you? Probably your lack of standards, or understanding and respect for the law, or an expectation of integrity from the President, or some combination of the above.

"Also it's not privileged because the brilliant Donald waived it, when he distanced himself from Cohen saying he wasn't doing work for him at the time."

I don't think I buy this. How can Attorney Client Privilege be waived without someone formally (legally) waiving it? Everybody knew Cohen was Trump's attorney. All of Trump's conversations with Cohen were and are confidential. This has to be so or our entire legal system collapses.

I suggest you read up on attorney client privilege. You clearly don't know but not all conversations with your attorney are privileged. If it's not regarding legal advice: not privileged, non clients present: not privileged, FURTHERING A CRIME: not privileged

Do you not think that conversations about properly structuring payoffs for whorish interactions would not constitute as legal advice? I doubt the feds that raided Cohen's office were merely looking for evidence of Trump talking to Cohen about the Yankees game. Cohen's office was raided for the sole purpose of accidentally uncovering something that could continue the narrative of Trump and Russia. When they found nothing they decided to cover their tracks by burning Cohen at the stake on "trumped up" charges.

        • Is Mueller planning on doing a nationwide tour of justice after he has finished digging through the lives of every single person that has ever talked to Donald Trump? Will his fervor for law and order continue on to the judicial and legislative branches as well? I'm just asking because he was hired for a single solitary purpose: to uncover whether the Trump campaign "colluded" with the Russians in order to influence the presidential election. So far he has uncovered tax evasion, bank fraud, and supposed campaign finance violations. Mueller is every bit as rabid as Ken Starr and this guy is supposed to be a Republican? I'm confused.

I also hope Trump pardons them all the moment the investigation is wrapped up on the grounds that they were victims of collateral damage during one of the biggest presidential witch hunts since the Clinton Era.

Where’s your disdain for John Edwards? The man who cheated on his wife that was ill with cancer and impregnated another woman? Come on man! Anyone can see that these are bad things. What should be done about it is a value judgement. I haven’t seen that anything illegal happened, but I’m open to it. If it did, then he should get an appropriate slap on the wrist.

`More fake news from the cheerleader. You have to be the biggest hypocrite on this board. People like you are the reason no one goes to church anymore. There is no morality in this country. People like you have to hide behind your religion to cover your craven lying. Your president is going to have a real tough time after November.

But since you guys both have two things in common (propagandizing and lying) perhaps someday you can share a jail cell together.

I got one fired up now!

How do you know I'm a hypocrite sir? Are you aware of my moral or religious beliefs? I do not think so.

It may surprise you to hear this but one thing CB is not... is a hypocrite. Ponder on that as you wish. Shudder at will.

You can pull out every single political statement I've made in the past and I can defend it with zero contradiction to my belief system.

How do you know I have not given up on "morality" in America? How can you be sure that my occasional comment on moral decline is not merely an echo of a former sentiment? How do you know I don't now define morality in a completely non-traditional way?

I could be a Christian yet hate Christians. I could be an Atheist yet hate Atheists. Don't try and figure me out brother, you'll hurt your coconut.

Because the Russia investigation was what started this. I’ve been talking about that with jdshock. That’s why. It’s important to me.

Can you not not see that this looks like some trumped up charge in order to dig in and find ANYTHING that could be illegal? What if THE COP breaks my window, and while investigating a bogus charge finds out that I had a contractor finish my basement without a permit? That’s what this looks like...not the dead body found while investigating a real crime, some second rate shame on you BS. We are operating within different frameworks here.

Man you can't help yourself with stupid whataboutism. I don't like John Edwards, I never indicated otherwise. He's despicable and what he did was unconscionable. It's hilarious that you think it's a gotcha to say where is my disdain for something I never gave my opinion on, when really it just shows your willingness to compromise on values just to support your guy. But have at it.

                • It would almost be worth it for Trump to go away so we could have the president with high morals that the democrats are pining for.

                  Mike Pence.

Classic! Oh how Pence would bring the pain to Washington. My wet dream would be to see Pence get 8 years after Trump's reign of terror comes to an end.

There doesn't have to be fire. There needs to be something much more than bought and paid for "opposition research" concocted in part by a foreign agent as the key substantiating piece of evidence required to start an investigation by a special counsel. If bought and paid for opposition research concocted in part by a foreign agent is all it takes to justify an investigation by a special counsel, well okay, this is going to be an interesting century.

                  • It's violates law because Donald didn't pay for it. Cohen did with the expectation of repayment, which is still a violation. It is a violation, you can kick and scream all you want but it's on the book and it's obvious he broke those laws.
You are assuming that Trump knew that Cohen used campaign funds to cover the payment. Did Cohen specifically tell him that, or just tell him that he was going to create a company to make the payment? We have no idea what Cohen told Trump. That hasn't been released yet as far as I know. At least it wasn't in the audio that was abruptly cut off. In there he mentioned creating a company. Nothing illegal about that. And it's probably for privacy. So far there is no tie to campaign funds, other than Cohen saying there was.

The one key witness is a guy that is a filthy criminal scumbag that was defrauding banks for millions of dollars. And the ONLY way hey gets reduced jail time is if he makes it out the Trump was doing something illegal. It's his only hope. Great witness.

Where the money came from doesn't matter here (it wasn't the campaign it was Cohen himself). If it was the campaign it would have had to be disclosed in the election finance disclosures, it wasn't. If it was from Cohen it was an illegal contribution vastly exceeding limits.

I don't understand. What stops Cohen from using his own personal money to settle a personal matter on behalf of Trump, and then be reimbursed by Trump?
