Who would have known there were so many groups outside the government willing to help the poor.

Something the government and most media don't want you to know about. These groups are better equipped and more efficient at helping people than government ever has a chance of being.

And they'd be even better at it if government got out of their way and stopped putting up roadblocks

It's a shame that he was given a pass for all of the deaths that his orders were directly responsible for. Not that sexual misconduct isn't a worthy reason to have him removed, but thousands of deaths are definitely worse.

I’m not wealthy by U.S. standards, but I give 15-20% of my income, besides my taxes. I’m guessing you give a lot less. You probably see a homeless man on the street begging, and give him a $20.00 bill to make yourself fell better?

Politics today, and this isn't a good look for the future of our country. We need dialogue, not uncompromising ideology.

I believe in Christian teachings. Christ told us to take care of those who don't have the means to take care of themselves. He taught us to take care of the sick. He taught us to educate our children. All of those are now labeled as Socialist.

None of those things are exclusively labeled socialist. Christ also said to render to Caesar that which is Caesar's. This is actually a very deep comment. Much deeper than a simple response to a trick question on taxation. Caesar ruled his kingdom, and being paid a tax was fair for him to do. It was also Caesar's, not Jesus's place on how to govern people, be it communism, socialism, capitalism or whatever. Followers of Christ were and are called to feed the hungry, comfort the sick and shelter the poor. This is God's kingdom and we are called to do exactly that. Tithing, and rendering to God that which is God's is what we are indtructed to do. That is why for years, most hospitals were religious based- just that reason. There are Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Jewish and even Muslim schools that teach. There are too many faith based homeless shelters and food banks to count- none of them government run. Living the beatitudes has nothing to do with socialism, it is rendering to God.

Outside of the strawman belief that Christ was a socialist, building roads is not socialist, nor is the government manning police and fire departments. Socialism is simply the government controlling the means of production. Roads and police and fire departments are services the government provides to promote safety and the common good. These services are provided to one extent or another, in any and every form of government. Socialism is when the car you drive, the house you buy and the food you eat are PRODUCED by the government.

The churches already do much more than people realize and would do a lot more if government got out of their way and stopped preventing them from helping. The government would much rather the people rely on them than churches or other local organizations. If they didn't, they'd get the hell out of the way
