Sounds like they'll get him cheaper than what he was wanting as well. Hopefully he can at least be a solid player. I don't expect him to be what one would expect from a number 4 pick but if he can help in the near future great.

I was thinking about this the other day, but the Royals are going to be a completely different team 2 years from now.

As far as current position players you're looking at maybe Butler, Maier and DeJesus. Not sure what thier plans are for David.

Heck, even next year we could see an outfield of DeJesus, Maier and Gordon with Robinson as well. Then it sounds like they may start playing Hosmer in RF next year. Who knows how far away he'll be.

Moose has a shot at 3rd next year if he keeps producing like he has been. I'm not sure how far out Giovatella is at 2nd. Kila could very well be the DH next year.

I'd expect to see Monty in the rotation next season. Crow could make it. If not, the next year. Not sure where Duffy will be at but he may be up in the next couple years if he picks up where he left off. I'm not sure if Osuna projects as a starter or relief guy but he's been looking quite good this year in Omaha.

          In two years I'm projecting

          CF - Robinson
          LF - Gordon
          RF - Maier

          3B - Moustakas
          SS - ?
          2B - Giovatella
          1B - Butler
          C - ?
          DH - Ka'aihue

SP - Grienke, Hochevar, Montgomery, Crow, ?

I'm not sure if we really have a SS in the system right now that will be ready to contribute. And I don't think Myers will be ready just yet behind the plate. Maybe the kid of Miami is possible. If Hosmer is somehow ready by then I'd be quite thrilled with him in RF.

Hosmer, Butler, Moose and Kila have potential to make a nice middle of the lineup. Gordon could be if he can hit like he is in Omaha.

          I enjoy looking ahead...

honestly the only way Moose should see the big club next year should be in Spring Training and September.

Let him go through spring training again this year then start him out in Omaha. Maybe a spot call up during the year but in September he's up and at it.

I guess im being overly cautious. No doubt about it the kid is killing it so far in the minors.

As for David, he needs to be traded. I love the guy and he's a good ball player but THAT is a guy who will get us prospects (maybe not studs but prospects non the less) This talk about getting prospects for Guillen is idiocracy at best.

if anything the minors have been great for the Royals and a reason to at least maintain a glimmer a hope for the future. i think Dayton is a bit nervous and will be taking college guys in the early rounds of this draft but his HS guys are performing at high levels now. Which is great for the future.

Myers is projected to join the OF ranks as well. i dont know much about Hosmers glove but they are talking about putting him out there. Primarily because they say he has a cannon for an arm (see Gordon) Maier doesnt have a future with KC. Nice guy great glove but his bat is (ehh)

not mad. Watched a little bit last night. Looked good with the glove plus I believe he was leading off. Speed was good.

They are supposed to play the late game tonight on the U if your interested.

As long as he can hit a little and play some D I'll be happy. SS is definitely a need for this organization.

Rany Reviews the Draft Sounds like KC may have come out alright here. I don't know a lot about most of these guys but they appear to at least be setting themselves up to fill out the future roster. The options appear to be there.

                          Colon's talent, personality evident early

Royals opt for shortstop Colon with top pick

Colon is just fine with destination Omaha

Eibner looks like player with many talents

Then I pulled the following from an article and it touches on the Day 2 picks:

Round 2, Brett Eibner, CF, Arkansas:
The Royals found a high-value pick early in the second round when they drafted Eibner who is a two-way player. Eibner excels in both the outfield and on the mound, as he has played both positions during his three years at Arkansas. Eibner also is dominant at the plate, as he registered 21 home runs in his junior season.

Round 3, Michael Antonio, SS, George Washington HS, N.Y.:
After using their first-round pick on a shortstop, the Royals added another as they drafted Antonio out of high school. Antonio, 18, is a bit of a project, and scouts have reported that he has good hands, but below average speed.

Round 4, Kevin Chapman, LHP, Florida:
After missing almost his entire 2008 season after having Tommy John surgery, Chapman has had a resurgence and is now considered one of the better relievers in his Draft class. Scouts commend his 96-mph fastball, but his breaking ball has been somewhat of a concern.

Round 5, Jason Adam, RHP, Blue Valley Northwest, Kan:
Most mock drafts had Adam going well before the fifth round, but a subpar performance toward the end of his senior season hurt his draft stock. The Royals took the Kansas native in the fifth round and scouts believe he has the size and ability to start in the Major Leagues.

Round 6, Scott Alexander, LHP, Sonoma State:
Through 13 starts in his junior season at Sonoma State, Alexander posted a 3-6 record with a 4.50 ERA. He allowed only 50 hits in 68 innings with 72 strikeouts and 40 walks.

Round 7, Eric Cantrell, RHP, George Washington U:
The Royals continued their stretch of taking pitchers as five of their first seven picks were pitchers. Cantrell's 6-foot-4 frame makes him an excellent starting pitcher prospect.

Round 8, Michael Mariot, RHP, Nebraska:
This right-hander was a staple for Nebraska's rotation, as he went 6-6 with a 4.70 ERA over a team-high 95 2/3 innings. Mariot ranked 10th in the Big 12 in innings.

Round 9, Whitley Merrifield, RF, South Carolina:
The Royals selected their second outfielder of the Draft when they selected the 6-foot-1 junior from South Carolina.

Round 10, Timothy Ferguson, CF, Ole Miss:
Ferguson finished his junior season hitting .294 in 262 at-bats. The right-hander registered 77 hits to go along with nine homers and 36 RBIs.

Round 11, Alex McClure, SS, Middle Tennessee State:
The Royals took their third shortstop of the 2010 Draft when they selected McClure who transferred to Middle Tennessee from Vanderbilt.

Round 12, Daniel Hernandez, RHP, Miami Dade CC South:
Another pitcher for the Royals in Round 12. The 21-year-old right-hander has decent size and had only allowed 10 earned runs in 65 2/3 innings pitched.

Round 13, Jonathan Gray, RHP, Chandler (Okla.) HS:
The Royals took their second high school pitcher in Gray.

Round 14, Michael Giovenco, RHP, North Park University:
The Royals continued their quest to bolster their pitching staff by taking Giovenco, who was drafted by the Twins in the 26th round in 2009.

Round 15, Jason Mitchell, RHP, Texas Arlington:
In a Draft ripe with right-handed pitching, the Royals are taking full advantage. In his career at Texas Arlington, Mitchell made 37 appearances, going 11-11 with a 4.65 ERA in 22 starts pitching 170 1/3 innings.

Round 16, Charles Byrne, RHP, East Tennessee St:
Another right-handed pitcher, Charles Byrne goes by Chas. Byrne is another pitcher/outfielder. In his 2010 season, Byrne hit .351 with 31 RBIs. On the mound, Byrne went 5-6 with a 6.91 ERA.

Round 17, Ryan Jenkins, C, Auburn:
Jenkins is the first catcher taken by the Royals. The right-handed hitter is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds.

Round 18, Scott Fletcher, LF, Auburn:
Fletcher makes it back-to-back selections out of Auburn for the Royals He is also the son of former Major Leaguer Scott Fletcher, who played shortstop and second base for six different ballclubs.

Round 19, Kevin David, C, Oklahoma State:
The third catcher selected by the Royals, David, hit .279 for the Cowboys in his junior season, with six homers and 40 RBIs.

Round 20, Cameron Conner, CF, Indiana University Southeast:
One of only a select few lefties selected by the Royals, Conner gives the team greater depth in center field.

Round 21, Michael Liberto, SS, Univ. of Missouri:
Dayton Moore didn't have to look far for the fourth shortstop taken by the Royals in this year's Draft. Liberto hit .317 for the Tigers during his senior season, with eight doubles and 31 RBIs.

Round 22, Tyler Graham, RHP, Nevada Reno:
The Royals went back to their right-handed pitcher mentality as they grabbed Graham in the 22nd round. Graham went 4-6 overall in 2010 with a 4.17 ERA. He also had a team-high 10 saves with 34 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched.

Round 23, Steven Neff, LHP, South Carolina:
Neff is one of only three left-handed pitchers taken by the Royals to this point. The sophomore went 2-1 in 15 appearances and one start with a 4.30 ERA.

Round 24, Brandon Glazer, SS, Clear Spring High School, Md.:
Glazer is one of only four high school players selected by the Royals to this point. Glazer will add to the depth at shortstop that the Royals already have from the Draft.

Round 25, Merritt Sosnoskie, LF, Virginia Tech:
Sosnoskie will add a left-handed bat to the Royals' organization and looks to provide greater depth in the outfield.

Round 26, Jonathan Dooley, RHP, Henderson State:
The Royals picked up another right-handed pitcher in round 26 when they grabbed Dooley, a senior from Henderson State in Arkansas.

Round 27, Jose Rodriguez, CF, Miami Dade CC South:
The Royals took their second player from Miami Dade in Rodriguez The switch-hitting center fielder will add depth to the Royals' outfield.

Round 28, Murray Watts, 1B, Arkansas State:
Watts was the only first baseman taken by the Royals. Watt's 6-foot-7 build is perfect for first base.

Round 29, Alexander Marquez, C, Alfonso Casta Martinez High School, Puerto Rico:
Marquez was one of only a few high school players taken by the Royals, and the first from Puerto Rico.

Round 30, Chad Blauer, RHP, Point Loma Nazarene University:
The Royals capped off Day 2 with another right-handed pitcher. Blauer was 13-2 in 15 appearances with a 3.57 ERA.

Since I'm bored at work I'm looking into the minors for prospect updates.

                            In Omaha:
OF Alex Gordon - Appears to be doing well. Hitting .377 in Omaha with 9 HRs. Heard he'll finish the season in AAA.
1B/DH Kila Ka'aihue - Hitting .319 with 11 HRs and 15 more BBs to SOs. As soon as Guillen is gone...
P Phillip Humber - He's got an ERA just under 5 but has about a 4 to 1 K/BB ratio.
P Bryan Bullington - I know he struggled some in KC but he's got an ERA under 2.
P Blaine Hardy - Between NWA and OMA he's got an ERA of .50 and nearly 3 to 1 K/BB.

                            In NWA:
3B Mike Moustakas - He's hitting .368 with 13 HRs and leading the farm system in a few other categories.
CF Derrick Robinson - Hitting just under .300 with 26 SBs and 5 triples.
2B Johnny Giavotella - Hitting .267 with 12 doubles. Nothing really jumps out looking at the stats but I know he's being watched.
C Manuel Pina - Not sure he projects as a starter but more of a serviceable backup.
                            P Edgar Osuna - ERA of 1.66 with a little over 5 to 1 K/BB.
                            P Aaron Crow - Stats aren't pretty.
P Mike Montgomery - Dominated at Wilmington and has an ERA under 3 with about a 2.5/1 K/BB while in AA.

                            In Wilmington:
1B Eric Hosmer - Talk of moving him to RF in the future. Hitting .359 with 20 doubles and at the top of most offensive categories in the system. Also has 9 SBs.
P Alex Caldera - ERA under 3 and as many Ks as IPs. Haven't heard much about him though.
P Chris Dwyer - One of our top lefties. ERA 3.22 and also has 64Ks in as many innings.
P Time Melville - I hear he's been pitching as well as anyone over the last month or so but stats aren't pretty.
P Patrick Keating - Had an ERA of 1.19 and 4/1 K/BB. Noticed he's been called up to NWA.
P John Lamb - Another promising young lefty that turns 20 next month. ERA of 1.50 with more Ks than IPs.

                            In Burlington:
C Wil Myers - He may not be a catcher in the future but his bat makes people happy. Currently hitting .275 with 8 HRs.
P Bryan Paukovits - 6'7" righty who has had an impressive start.

Is Alex Gordon going to prove to be a AAAA player?

I know he has been plagued by injuries, but he hasn't shown anything when he's been on the big club after performing pretty well in AAA.

If so, it is too bad.

I know he has been plagued by injuries, but he hasn't shown anything when he's been on the big club after performing pretty well in AAA.

If so, it is too bad.

My thoughts exactly, '85. I've seen numerous athletes become annual AAA all-stars, but it never seems to translate well to MLB. Alex's situation is a little different in that the Royals, I believe, rushed him too quickly to the bigs. So it might be best to just forget about the fact he was a big league starter in 2007 and 2008.

Humber and Bullington may also have that AAA ceiling as well. I believe both have been there a while. Hardy looks like the player on a solid fast track to reach KC and stick. I hope Kila gets another, and better, shot at KC this year and that Guillen won't have been around one year too long to stop or hinder his progression.
