It looks like we traded Ram ram for Coco Crisp

According to Brian McRae reporting for Sports Radio 810 in Kansas City, the Royals acquired Coco Crisp from the Red Sox for reliever Ramon Ramirez. I emailed McRae to confirm, and he said, "It's a done deal." The Royals get speed and a quality center fielder, while the Red Sox receive a quality late-game reliever.

Crisp, 29, hit .283/.344/.407 in 409 plate appearances this year. His center field defense saved 26 bases over the average last year, but was two below this year. Crisp will earn $5.75MM in '09 and has an $8MM club option with a $500K buyout for '10.

The Red Sox trim payroll here, as Ramirez is not yet arbitration-eligible. He will not reach free agency until after the 2012 season, so the Red Sox impressively acquired four years of his services. The 27 year-old posted a 2.64 ERA in 71.2 innings this year while whiffing 70. The Royals might have to add a reliever to compensate for his absence.

        Interesting.

I always had this feeling that KC would trade a valuable player for a box of cereal.

Mahay, Bale, Tejeda, Rosa or a yet-to-be-named reliever Dayton seems to be able to acquire and make valuable.

This move will make it easier to trade Teahen, and if DM can find a good OF power bat, perhaps DDJ, as well.

Best case scenario, IMO, would be to unload Guillen (a difficult task, obviously), trade Teahen and get a FA right-fielder with power. My only reservation is that Teahen can backup so many positions. But if it would improve the team, I won't mind seeing him go.

            Lineup as I see it now . . .

            Crisp
            Aviles
            DeJesus
            Guillen
            Gordon
            Jacobs
            Butler/Shealy
            Olivo
            Callaspo

Gordon and Jacobs could be swapped, though I don't like the idea of two prolific out-producers hitting back-to-back.

Yeah the lineup looks good Royal.

Teahan has all the tools it takes to be phenominal. He just cant put it together.

As soon as hes unloaded to someone else is when that will happen. I wouldnt mind seeing Mark as a 4th outfielder. But for that to happen they are going to have to get rid of Costa and gathright.

I've seen fan speculation in that regard. I've also seen Teahen for Mike Fontenot.

In looking at Marshall's numbers, I suppose he would be an OK return for Teahen, but just OK. His K/9 numbers as a starter in 06 and 07 aren't great and he mostly pitched out of the pen last season, registering just seven starts.

I would prefer Fontenot, as he looks an improvement over Grudz at 2B.

Actually didn't they used to do that all the time? :D

That's about all some of the players that they have acquired over the years were worth. Heck, I've gotten alot more enjoyment from a box of cereal than I have from watching the Royals. And they still have a better of choking than I did.

KC seems to be a leader in the Rafael Furcal sweepstakes.

He's going to be pricey but if KC can get him - likely a four-year deal - we'll have pretty good offense up the middle (Aviles, Furcal, Crisp). Add them to DeJesus, Butler, Gordon, Jacobs and maybe Guillen (if he's not unloaded), I think that's a solid lineup.

                            Furcal
                            Aviles
                            DeJesus
                            Guillen
                            Jacobs
                            Butler
                            Gordon
                            Olivo/Buck
                            Crisp

It would be great to have a shortstop like Furcal, but I will believe it when I see it.

That would add another Atlanta product to the Royals.

It looks like KC will add Kyle Farnsworth to their bullpen for $9.25mil over the next two years.

Good thing Affeldt isn't still here!

Now I have to believe it's either Guillen or Furcal. Guillen could have a good year after healing his hip. If he gets traded, Jacobs, Gordon and Butler need to produce.

If Moore really wants Furcal, he has about a week to unload Guillen.
