I'm just not sure how taking away one of the few offensive weapons we have with no replacement is good for this young team. You still need to have some veteran leadership. We have enough good young RBs to make trading LJ easier.
Giants makes no sense with Shockey there.

And when is his contract up? I think that may play into it, cause why would he want to come back to, arguably, the worst team in the NFL?

But I also agree that Carl and Herm will screw up the trade and the Chiefs will be big losers in the end.

      • I think the biggest reason he is being shopped around is because he WANTS to be traded. When somebody has been as good as he has, and been the ultimate professional both in the locker room and the community, you honor his wishes and try to work a deal so the man can play in the playoffs.

        • Yeah I think the general consensus here is that Gonzo's earned the right to ask for a trade to a contender. He's always been professional and spoke highly of KC, and never really questioned the "youth movement" but at this point its obvious he won't get in the playoffs with KC in the next 2-3 years, which is probably all he has left. Yes it sucks to see him go, and yes with so few offensive weapons it sucks to see him go; but he is on the downside of his career and supposedly that's why they've drafted a couple young TE's to replace him. I know he's older (i.e. less years to go) but if Shockey was worth a 2nd & 5th from N.O. then Gonzo's worth at least that much. Unfortunately I think every expert agrees N.O. overpaid for someone the Giants didn't want at all, but if KC can get some good picks (or a decent OL maybe?) in exchange then I'd wish Gonzo well with no hard feelings and root for wherever he goes to get far in the playoffs.

Very good post. A really good OL would be great. And if he asked for it, let him go. It's not fair to someone that has done all that he has for KC to keep him there against his will.

I figured they would somehow figure out how to lose the bye week too. :D

                    • You have to give Gonzo props. He's handling this like a true professional.

Would you expect anything different from him? Tony has always been a first class person and I wouldn't expect that to end because Carl was being Carl. It'd be tough to see Tony playing in anything other the Chiefs red, but he has earned the opportunity to get a shot at the title. There's still a chance for him to go elsewhere this offseason. But I have to admit part of me is happy he'll be here to spend more time with the youngsters. That only helps them become better players and people.

I still think LJ should be the prime trade bait. Even though he hasn't been running well at all. The best thing would be for him to pick it up the rest of the year and move him in the offseaon.

                        • My guess is LJ will either be traded in the offseason or will just be flat out cut.

                          • My feelings on Tony is yes i feeling little sorry for him, but did he not see that this team was aging when he signed his contract last season. You could tell from last season when he signed his contract that we were at least 2 years away from doing anything competitive.

                            • I would be pissed if I were Tony, playing for such a worthless organization with a crappy GM and an even worse coach. Tony should have been traded to the Giants on Tuesday, but as per usual, the chiefs screwed it up. Typical Kansas City. I do feel bad for Gonzales because #1, they aren't using him nearly as much this year, and #2 now he has to play the rest of the season with a team that probably won't win another game, and he won't get thrown to nearly as much as he should. Not letting him get the record at home in the win against Denver was the most classless thing I have ever seen from a coach, and I lost all respect for Herm after that. If both Peterson and Herm aren't gone after the season, I will officially cut all ties with the Chiefs.

Now as for LJ goes, I've wanted him gone for a while. He is nothing but a harm to this team with his selfish all about me attitude. If he played with half the heart that he played with in his first 2 years, he might be worth keeping, but even if KC did try to trade him I seriously doubt they'd get much. LJ may have played himself out of KC by missing that team meeting during the bye week, and if so, I say good riddance to him

                              • Broyle goes out with an injury, hard to tell how bad right now. Even though I don't think he is the answer at QB, you have to feel bad for him and the injury bug that has plagued him apparently since high school. It would be nice to know whether or not he is NFL caliber based on performance on the field instead of being healthy.

                                On comes Huard.
