He's made comments before that he doesn't understand why young players sign long-term deals that push back free-agency. I suspect Zach won't entertain a contract extension but would give KC a shot in the sweepstakes.

If you think you can sign him you do. The kid is good and it appears he's gotten over his problems. He's front of the rotation guy and KC has to have them if they ever want to do something. Now, if Dayton thinks it can't be done he does have trade value, but I'd hate to see him leave KC.

I think a Zito deal is way to high. But alot of things will factor in such as CC will be a free agent next year. If he signs for huge money else where then Walmart is going to have to break the bank. I believe Zack is FA eligible 2010

Like I hinted at before, I think Zack will publicly declare his intentions to test the free-agent waters.

I'm not sure if I hope I'm wrong or not. If DM gets a killer trade proposal and we get two legitimate ML-ers or ML-ready prospects (such as a SS, C, OF or P), the dollar savings could go to signing another free-agent starter, ala Meche. In that scenerio, you might be getting three (or close to it) for the price of one.

If DM gets a killer trade proposal and we get two legitimate ML-ers or ML-ready prospects (such as a SS, C, OF or P), the dollar savings could go to signing another free-agent starter, ala Meche. In that scenerio, you might be getting three (or close to it) for the price of one.

I actually would be surprised if it were that difficult to sign Greinke to a long-term deal. I think it's a no brainer that they need to try and get it done ASAP.
