  • Last night's win was big, at least in increasing the probability of a Royals World Series Win. MLB radio reported before the game that in 17 of the last 20 games the team winning game 1 wins the series.

    Go Royals!

      • Question for you baseball people -- is it unusual or completely normal to roll in a new pitcher in each extra inning? If that's business as usual, and they get to the bottom of their roster, do they save a couple "endurance" guys? I noticed the last two guys pitching (Colon and Young) both had less speed on their pitches, and I wasn't sure if that's because they were being more conservative in case the game lasted a long time, or just because their skillset isn't in fast pitching?

          1. Yes it is normal. I dont know why.
          2. Both are older and bodies change over time so they lose zip on their fastball. Chris Young was never a hard thrower to begin with. Both wer starting pitchers in the regular season and moved to the bullpen for the playoffs. Young was scheduled to start game 4 but can (and was) used as a long man out of the bullpen to eat innings in the case someone couldnt go. Royals still had 2 more pitchers back there they could have thrown.

          • The one-inning per reliever is typical mainly because that is how they are generally used throughout the season, so it is what their arms are conditioned for. Guys who have been recently converted from starters (Duffy, Medlen) can usually go 2, 3 or 4 innings. Another reason is that relievers don't hold anything back, so they are throwing harder than starters, which limits their endurance.

            • Also, a lot of these relievers could go more than 1 inning if asked but then would be unavailable for GM 2.

              • Glad to see Gordo bail the Royals out of that one. The error by Hoz was brutal. A tough play, but one he should, and usually would, make. A good win for the Royals. One down, three more to go. Let's go Royals!

                • At least Hoz redeemed himself with the sac fly.

Hosmer had a below average game. Shakey on defense and at the plate. Zobrist was outstanding and his single in the 14th to move Esky to 3rd and set up the sac fly by Hosmer was the key to that inning. Of course, none of what happened in the bottom of the 14th happens without Gordon's 9th inning heroics and the bullpens work, especially the work of Chris "Killing Them Softly" Young. Also a big thank you to the work of Yoenis Cespedes in kicking Esky's lead off deep fly ball to left center into the left field corner.

                    • The Royals realty need a good, extended outing from Johnny Cueto tonight. Their short relievers are in okay shape but they are pretty much down to Chris Medlen in middle to long relief.

                        • His foot was on the freaking bag when he caught the ball and then his momentum took him away from it. What's up with the d-bag announcer?

                              • It sure looks like 1 team has been here before, doesn't it?

Say what you want, but Cueto's game against Houston in game 5 and then tonight, worth every penny of the 5 million or so it cost the Royals.
