  • Stat of the night from Buster Olney: "Numbers worth repeating: deGrom threw 94 pitches, and of those, the Royals fouled off 23, and had only three missed swings. 3."

    • If you aren't a fan of the Royals, it's probably getting old hearing ALL the announcers talk about how "they never miss".

      Pretty cool team to watch.

If you aren't a fan of the Royals, you're probably just as surprised as the announcers that they never miss.

Seriously people, what were you expecting? The Royals have the lowest strikeout rate in MLB. The Cubs had the highest. Expecting continued dominant strikeout rates in this series was naive.

        • I thought this ESPN article was one of the better analysis of the Royals I have read or heard:

The Mets have whiffed in their attempts to snuff out Kansas City's relentless offensive attack, which has the Royals up 2-0 in the Series.

...there's nothing accidental about that. It's the philosophy of the house. Swing early. Shorten up. Be aggressive. Don't surrender. And everybody, says hitting coach Dale Sveum, is on board."When we get to crunch time, we can't strike out," Sveum said Wednesday, "because we're not going to walk very much.
It's a style that fits the personnel of this team and the park they play in and is probably not one that will be or should be broadly adopted by other teams.

I guess I can check that box.

I was catching up on posts this morning and I noted how very astute that was.

Say what you want, but Cueto's game against Houston in game 5 and then tonight, worth every penny of the 5 million or so it cost the Royals.
The Johnny Cueto Experience is like its own reality show. You never know what's going to happen. Dumpster fire or epic performance, you can't look away!

                  I sure will miss him!

                  • Johnny Cueto is the baseball manifestation of Ms. Gump's life philosophy.

                            Go Royals!

                            • Given the calls that didn't go the Royals way in that game...and the way "Trailer Park Thor" threw at Esky and responded to questions about it, I don't feel the slightest bit bad for Murphy's error. Sometimes karma just comes back around and bites you in the a$$.
