I knew the USWNT was down a starter or two, but I didn't realize they had _four_ starters out. Eesh. With 36% of our starters out, it's starting to make a little more sense to me what happened in Australia.

Ooof, yeah, that is nasty luck. 22 shots to 9 and they are from quality locations. I thought they played Sweden a lot better than they showed against other teams for sure. And the U.S. keeper even got a save in the shootout. It almost never happens that the one keeper that gets a save loses in a shootout. The problem is that the assumption in the models is the results wouldn’t be the same. The entire qualifying they struggled to score. They shoot high and hard. Most of the time right at the keeper. 11 games, same results. Not just the World Cup.Originally posted by Kung Wu View Post
Like USMNT, the US is so focused on developing technically sound players that can juggle 100 times but can’t make a weighted pass into space. Of course that doesn’t matter because they have limited tactical understanding as the game plan is a bunch of short passes building out of the back then a Hail Mary to wingers running straight down the field.Comment

The 2030 men’s World Cup will be hosted by six countries in three different continents to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the first edition of the tournament, soccer’s world governing body FIFA announced on Wednesday.
Spain, Portugal and Morocco will co-host the tournament, while Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina will all stage an opening match each to mark 100 years since the first World Cup was staged. The 1930 tournament was hosted and won by Uruguay.
“In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “The FIFA Council, representing the entire world of football, unanimously agreed to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup, whose first edition was played in Uruguay in 1930, in the most appropriate way.”
“The FIFA Council also agreed unanimously that the only bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 will be the joint bid of Morocco, Portugal and Spain,” added Infantino.

Not often do you see a team down 1-0 or 2-0 time-wasting. That was a sight to be hold, as was the 75% possession we had and the 0 shots on goal we allowed.
