  • He is still with the team, I believe. And he starts getting paid the league minimum from day 1, which is roughly $500,000 for a season. That divides down to about $3000 per game, which is about what a minor-leaguer makes in a month.

    • The rumor is that the the Royals are pushing hard to get Johnny Cueto. Yes please!

      • I'm just pleased they are continuing to win at an even better pace after Gordon's injury. 20 games over .500 and 6 games ahead of the Twins. Life is good!

This week will be tough, though, going up against Burnett and Cole.

        • I wouldn't mind seeing Cueto In Royal blue but at what cost? Having him for a couple of months and little chance to sign him long term isn't worth giving up top prospects. I'm not sure what Cincy needs. The Royals can get to the playoffs without Cueto, but a short series is where he could pay dividends. If yesterdays Duffy continues and Medlin proves to be better than Guthrie or Vargas (should not be hard to do) the Royals may be OK with what they have.
One quick note before we present the rankings: With Wichita State’s move to the American Athletic Conference, the Shockers have moved out of the mid-major club. We wish the Shockers well against Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and more.

          • Another thing that worries me is that any bigger contract given to a top starter might lessen the money that is available to re-sign Gordo. I know the current OF group is carrying on admirably but I really want Alex to retire as a Royal. I'm too sentimental to make a good GM.

            • It's being reported that the Royals and Reds have agreed in principle to a trade sending Johnny Cueto to the Royals. Rumored names are Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb.

If it's only those two, I'm fine with it. It's also being rumored Sean Manaea may be involved. If so, that's too much, unless KC is getting another piece.

Normally, I am of the mindset of "Don't just win now but win from now on." That said, the Royals have a great core in place and need another piece or two to maximize their chances to win the World Series. Seeing as it had been 29 years of mostly irrelevance before last year, I'm getting greedy and want a World Series title with this group. Fortunes can change so quickly in baseball. Strike the iron while it's hot.

This seems like a great trade to help the Royals in the post season. I'm excited to see Cueto on the mound.
Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

The Royals announce that they've acquired INF/OF Ben Zobrist from Oakland in exchange for P Aaron Brooks and Sean Manaea.

Wow! The Royals really are going ALL-IN with this playoff push.
