  • I have to wear company logo polos for work but I get to choose the colors. I picked powder blue and black, four of each. I wear a powder blue the day after a Royals win, black after a loss. I'm wearing black today following a win because I don't have a clean blue one. Fifth win in a row means I need to do laundry. Nice problem to have.
This big division lead gives the Royals an opportunity to experiment with lineups and rest guys but I would really like to see them get to 100 wins. That's a milestone that not many franchises have. Oh well. Late August and the Royals aren't in a division race again.
One quick note before we present the rankings: With Wichita State’s move to the American Athletic Conference, the Shockers have moved out of the mid-major club. We wish the Shockers well against Cincinnati, UConn, SMU, and more.

    • I am not so worried about 100 wins, although that would be nice, as I am about home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Royals haven't faired well against quality opponents with small ballparks, losing 3 of 4 recently to the Bluejays, swept by the Astros, and getting just hammered earlier in the season by the Yankees. Those are all possible playoff opponents. The Royals are built to take advantage of the K. The more games they are able to play there, the better off they will be.

P.S. If the Royals lose tonight I am blaming your black shirt! :friendly_wink:
      Go Shocks!

      • I agree that HFA is important. 100 wins pretty well wraps that up. They wouldn't let me wear one of my jerseys but I can change shirts when I go home for lunch. Wife should have the washing done by then.

        • The Royals comeback today at Fenway Park was pretty fun. They shouldn't have won but they never give up.

          • Can a knowledgeable Royals fan please explain this to me?

            Jonny Gomes

I know the rosters will expand to 40 tomorrow, but this just seems a waste of bench space.

            • I wondered the same thing when I heard about it.

Gomes supposedly hits lefties well (.857 OPS, 21 BBs in 97 PAs), letting him spell or pinch-hit for Gordon or Hosmer. I think it's similar to the Josh Willingham trade last year, which proved beneficial.

Versus LHPs, Hosmer has a .706 OPS and Gordon a .815 OPS.

Item 2: Well, sort of. Guthrie is Guthrie and Vargas was doing OK before going down. Now Vargas is a non-factor, maybe even for next year.
Item 3: Royals fans are glad you were wrong (so far).
Item 4: The bullpen has been as strong as ever.....until recently.
Item 5: Half right. (I would have said the same.)
Item 6: Nailed it. KC has been careful with Cain. Omar may have lost his job.
Item 7: Can you say "More than 88"?

Royals go out and get Cueto and Zobrist. My Cards get Moss. :disgust: :banghead: (Where's that "throw-up" smilie when I need it)
I just saw this! I was wrong about as much as I was right. I'll take it!

                Happy Alex Gordon Day!

                    :(

                    Better now than October...

                      • So what's up with Cueto? Could it be the pressure of suddenly being the ace for a World Series contender?

                        • There was a good article on ESPN talking about it.

Basically he has had a combination of bad luck and over reliance on cutter that recently hasn't been up to snuff. The writer seems to think this is pretty fixable. As stated earlier, you would rather have these problems now than in October/November. :)

The early returns on Johnny Cueto indicated the Royals had their No. 1 starter, but his last three starts might tell a different story.

                            • Unfortunately, on WSU night at the K, the Royals got beat, again, by the White Sox 6-1. For those keeping score, that 18-2 for the two games.

Royals lead for home field throughout the post season is down to 5 games over Toronto. Not that that may be a big thing given these last two games.

For you Cardinal fans, St Louis beat the Pirates tonight to keep their divisional and best overall record in the NL over those same Bucs by 6 1/2 games.

The Cards will win 100 this year, despite all their key injuries throughout the season, if they can finish 13-14 over the remainder of the schedule.

                              • I enjoyed Shocker Night at the "K", baseball not withstanding. Wu threw out the first pitch and it went downhill from there. Come on Wu, what was that, a four hopper to the plate? Disappointing effort.

It was great to talk to lots of other Shocker fans though. All were excited for the start of the season and looking forward to something very special this season. The hats are cool, maybe a little too much on the yellow side, but my wife and I are proud to own them!

So now the Royals have been swept in a home series for the first time in over a year. The Twins are coming to town for three. Doing the math, we are going to the playoffs, bank it. Home field thoughout will take some work, but once Ned quits fiddling with the lineup every day, things should return to our normal winning ways.

Hope everyone in attendance had a good time. The Shox were well represented and we saw and talked to many Shocker fans around KC today. As many on here will agree, it is a great time to be a Shocker fan!
