I believe the rules say any dorm has to have at least 50% of the rooms allocated to non athlete students.

If the NCAA had a shred of credibility (which it doesn't) they would put the kibosh on these athlete's village type projects. It would be one thing if these facilities were to be open to all students, but when you start building resort style accommodations just for athletes its gone way too far. If I was a student at UCF I would be livid that my tuition dollars were being used this way.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

    • Not going to argue, but it is what it is. A 50% basketball dorm close to chuck and a 50
Baseball dorm close to Eck goes a long ways to seperate us or really just kelp up. Could also build a 50% women's dorm for Softball/Volleyball/W basketball as well.

      • They do, or at least did at one point, have plans for more dorms on campus (unless SGA tries to block it that is....).

Whether athletics has any part of those plans, I don't know.

        • The YMCA is far from off the table; quite the opposite actually.

The WSU SGA vastly overestimates their power on the issue. (Absolutely shocking, I know.)

I know this slightly off topic, but has there been any updates on the situation where the SGA voted down Young Americans for Liberty from starting a student group? I agree that they let their non-existent power get to their heads but with what little power they do have, I'd hate to see them throw a wrench in things and hinder the university's growth by deterring potential students like what is happening at Mizzou. I've heard they have had to close multiple dorms lately.

I haven't personally heard anything more. My guess is that it's not a high profile enough situation to drive a revision of their decision. I wouldn't be surprised if it stays status quo until next academic year when more reasonable, open-minded and tolerant types regain control of that cesspool. 100% speculation on my part.

Yeah I hope the next group isn't like the current group of pre-schoolers. I was also hoping YAL would put up a fight but then again, who knows how these crazies would retaliate. Certainly wouldn't want a Berkeley/Antifa type of deal to go down.

                • An interesting read to give some perspective on where we've been.

Granted, the pic of Lew Perkins makes me want to go "Flounder" on him.

                    • University: Summer construction start for WSU hotel project

A hotel on the campus of Wichita State University is closer to becoming a reality.
University leaders tell the Wichita Business Journal construction on a 123-room Element by Westin Hotel is expected to begin this summer.

Developers say they are waiting on the final franchise approval before proceeding with construction.
The hotel will be part of the Breaburn Square development on Wichita State’s innovation campus.
LK Architecture is developing plans for the hotel. Imagine Resorts and Hotels will operate the facility.
This will be another addition to WSU’s growing innovation campus, which is being developed on the land that once housed Braeburn Golf Course.
WSU’s experiential engineering building, the local headquarters for Airbus Americas Engineering and a Starbucks have already opened on the innovation campus.
A new joint law enforcement training center for the Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is under construction near the university’s Marcus Welcome Center, as is a 112-unit apartment complex that will have capacity for 285 residents.
Plans for the hotel, meanwhile, were announced last June.

P.S. I sure hope there’s enough support for all the new hotels being built in the Wichita area.

                      • I believe the hotel on campus was being built primarily to host visitors to the Innovative campus buildings ie Airbus and other projected buildings. Perhaps parents wishing to visit the campus and stay close.

I wonder if it would become the preferred hotel for visiting athletic teams.

That would be perfect for us - psych out the opposing team with subliminal messages in the room. 😎
