No luxury boxes listed in the plan in the Eagle today.
In other news, the County is trying to block the joint City/County law enforcement training center on the Innovation Campus. Public buildings are to be built on ground that is owned by the entity constructing the building and the City only has a long-term lease on the dirt. There's a further challenge to how the bidding was awarded.
I will admit that my opinion of some of the County Commissioners is low - and I mean LOW. Unfortunately, they have a history of getting upset when the "wrong" people get projects. With that in mind, I suspect the "wrong" construction company got the bid and everything else is a throw-in that would have been ignored if the "right" construction company had gotten the bid.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
The land lease hissy-fit is really dumb. That is extremely common in the commercial realm. They need to get over it, and update their regulations.
On the other hand, if the project is being built with public funds (one would assume) then it needs to be subject to bid letting and a competitive bid process. If it didn't go down the path of a competitive bid process (did it?) then the county commissioners are on point. Public money filtering down to a non-competitive bid process (nepotism and the ol' boys club) is what built Wichita's Key Construction from the ground up.
The construction project went through normal bidding processes. The dispute seems to involve the county now deciding they don't want to have to pay for half of the facility because they think a smaller facility would be better. This just came to the public's attention recently - after the project was actually started in December.
Just another city/county pissing match. IIRC, the county threatened to pull all funding from the on-campus project and build their own facility.

Sounds similar to the debacle with the national guard facility just off 135 and 21st Street. They agreed to pay their share then tried to back out after it was started. I'd bet it is the same commissioners that are doing this.
For a second question, why are the emergency services of Wichita and Sedgwick county still separate? They could save a shitload of money by combining them.
Posting on mobile so I can't post a link but I saw an article that mentioned that WSU and the Y are looking to build a facility on the Innovation Campus that would replace the Heskett Center. That would be EXCELLENT!

"The Heskett campus recreation center was built in 1983," Hall said, "and while we are very proud of the programs and services the Campus Recreation staff have developed, the current facility doesn't meet the expectations of today's students."
Hall says intramurals, sport clubs, aquatics and the crew team will still be housed in the Heskett Center, and she expects the Campus Rec staff to create additional initiatives to engage students.
Every time I drive by the Innovation Campus and surrounding area, I get excited. Great things are happening. WSU has come a long way since I was in school there. Very fun
