Wichita State Poised For Massive Growth

Contract awarded for phase two of infrastructure improvements on the expanding Innovation Campus. Work includes two new roads, lighting, fiber optic installation, and an "east mall." Exciting times for WSU.

Also of note, an updated masterplan can be viewed on this flier. This is the most up to date rendering of the plans that I could find. In most articles about the Innovation Campus in the news, or even on the WSU website itself, there are conflicting/older renderings which don't properly convey the scope of Bardo's vision.

I know it's just a long-range plan, but one thing I notice about the updated campus map from when it was first released is that, unless I'm just not seeing it, there is no tennis complex. The first plan moved the Coleman complex to an area east of the softball stadium and south of Eck, along with a couple of multi-use athletic fields. (See page 32 of the original master plan) That area is now a parking lot for a future residence hall. I hope that's just an oversight or that it's going to at least be moved to the Hughes Metroplex.

I noticed that as well. Maybe they are moving the athletic fields and Tennis complex to the new Football complex.

"Jodi Buchanan, who owns B.S. Sandwich Press with her brother, Doug, helped with the planning of the park and said the food truck community is buzzing about the development. College students are ideal food truck customers, she said, but the many efforts she’s made in the past to set up near WSU have been thwarted. A contract with WSU’s vending company prohibits other food businesses from setting up on campus. But the ground that the Innovation Campus is being built on, which covers part of the old Braeburn golf course, isn’t covered by the contract, according to the release."

Sneaky Bardo. Doing what's best for the University. I wonder how ticked the vending company is...

Why does this scene pop into my head?

I know I've mention it before, but I believe a smaller fieldhouse for sports such as volleyball/woman's basketball would be a great idea.

It would really help with the advantage of the crowd attendance for volleyball to be in a smaller mor interment environment.

I also think they should knock down old Cessna and make it a dedicated T&F facility. (Seeing as how they will have to build a new stadium, probably off campus for football if it does ever return) That would be great for the programs and the State track meet.

If I was a big money booster, that's where my $$$ would go. That and building "The House That Gregg Built" for basketball ;)

The plan is to knock down the east side an put up a parking garage. Then that's pretty much all it will be.

The earliest Wichita State's acquisition (PC = merger) of WATC is 2018-19. It would be called the School of Technology and Applied Science.

The city of Wichita wants the new law enforcement training center to be located on the Innovation Campus. Building would house classrooms for WSU's criminal justice program, and collaborate with the university.
