Player to Be Named Later usually means that the teams have agreed on a list of about 5-10 players that one team wants and the other team is willing to trade and the in this case the Royals will evaluate those 5 or so players and pick out the one they want the most or they think can help them the most. Sometimes the Player to be named later trades seem like the team just wanted rid of the said player they are trading, but in reality they are doing their due diligence in deciding which minor leaguer to take.
