A Wichita youth-baseball league’s Jackie Robinson statue — which was cut at its feet and stolen from McAdams Park last week, leading to a citywide manhunt and national media attention — was found charred and in pieces Tuesday morning in Garvey Park.

Garvey Park is in south Wichita, about seven miles from where it was stolen.

“It’s not salvageable at this time,” Wichita police spokesperson Andrew Ford said.

Ford said they are still investigating to find suspects.

Seems like the perps may have realized they had jumped the shark with this theft and were trying to dispose of the evidence. Hope they catch them so form of accountability can hopefully be delivered.

Also feels like it's just a matter of time. Seems to be many eyes on this and quite a bit of confidence from those involved.

Exactly in the state we predicted it would be in. Tried to melt it without a makeshift brick kiln ... fail. Then you gotta chop it and grind it since you suck at melting it. Wouldn't be surprised if a "small" 30 to 100 pounds of it are missing.

Seems like they should easily catch these guys.
