WBJ - How much revenue Kansas earned in first year of sports betting
The state's share of revenue from its first fiscal year of legalized sports betting totaled $5.8 million — compared to the $58.7 million that was generated statewide in retail and online wagering.
A report from the Kansas Lottery breaks down revenues through fiscal year June 2023, with Kansas Star Casino in Mulvane bringing in $1.2 million in in-person sports betting revenue through its partner sportsbook FanDuel.
By comparison, FanDuel generated $25.4 million from online bets in the last fiscal year, according to the report.
The Kansas Lottery report shows nearly $1.7 billion in wagers were settled in Kansas in the last year. That breaks down into $75 million settled in person at the state's four casinos, and $1.6 billion wagered online.
Of the state's $5.8 million share, $4 million went into a fund aimed at attracting a professional sports team to Kansas; $922,000 into a state gaming revenues fund; $750,000 toward a white collar crime fund; and $102,000 to a fund combating problem gambling and addictions.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

The numbers are kind of interesting. In a perfect world for the casino, they book the exact same dollar amount on each side of every wager. With 10% juice it would equate (I think) to 5% of the total wagered.
5% of 1.67 billion is $83,500,000 but they show revenue of only $58,700,000 (not sure why BetMGM shows $0 revenue). I wonder how much of that is due to first year giveaways/let's see if we can turn you into a gambling addict promotions?
I highly doubt it's because the average KS bettor is a little better than average.
On 2nd thought, I'm sure the Chefs winning the Super Bowl had at least something to do with that.

I don't bet a lot. I started with $100 and am at around $1500 in my account. The Chiefs absolutely helped that.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

If I remember right, the starting max wager for a promotional/boosted bet is $50. DraftKings eventually bumped me up to $100 max with the occasional $250 max. They’ve since lowered me to $10 max with the occasional $25 max. I usually don’t even bother abusing the $10 maxes but I’ll play the $25 maxes. Example today: Jannik Skinner to win 3 sets to 0 was -160 straight odds but +100 boosted. I’ve never even heard of Jannik Skinner but I have no problem putting down $25 at +100. PointsBet has boosted odds today for the Utah/Florida game. They have the moneyline set at Utah -229 but they’re offering boosted odds of +200.
I’m probably a break-even bettor at best with normal lines but if the math is on my side I have no problem putting up whatever they’ll allow me to. I assume at some point the books will severely limit me or even shut down my accounts but I’ll take what they give me for now.

Many on the forum have been saying their enjoyment in watching college sports has declined. On the flip side, I've watched more in the last three months than I did in the past 5 years. It has been very entertaining for the most part.
I don't want to promote gambling as I know the downside. I had signed up with one of the services about 15 years ago and ultimately lost a few hundred. At the time, it was a decent sum of money to my household and I regret it.
That said, the fact it's legal now and there's competition has definitely changed the landscape for the better. I have been seeing the offers over the past couple of years and had held out until recently.
I first signed up for BetMGM which offered bonus bets in an equal amount of the first bet lost. This is the worst type of sign up offer, but I didn't realize it at the time. I was lucky by taking Georgia in the SEC championship at plus odds for the first bet. I lost my next couple of bets and decided to cash out with a minimal profit. After I cashed out, they gave me a risk free $10 bonus bet, which I lost. This happened a few times until I finally hit on one of the bonus bets and then went on a nice streak to stretch it to $75. I had $10 on Miami to win their bowl game. The one Cam Ward opted out of at halftime and this almost ruined it for me. I withdrew $50 right away. I have taken the remaining $15 back up $45.
FanDuel and Draft kings have the best sign up offers with immediate bonus bets if your first 5$ bet wins. Simply put $5 in and put it on a team like Gonzaga to beat a bottom tier team at home and bingo you've got $250 at FanDuel and $150 at DK in bonus bets. From there I put it on as many plus odds lines as possible where I thought the underdog had a decent chance. I ended up with 66 at DK and a couple of hundred at FanDuel. FanDuel offered a bunch of additional attractive bonus offers and I was able to increase up to $700+ (net of any deposits). I had a few misses after and have decided to set a floor of $600 maintain for now.
I had immediately withdrew the $66 from DK a few weeks ago. Tonight they offered a $25 bonus bet with a $25 deposit. I decided to go for it and doubled the $25 bonus on +230 odds on Indiana. It was a wild game and I went through every emotion as they were down 6 at half and fought back to go up 10 under 5 mins to play, before blowing the lead and eventually winning in OT. It was an absolute blast to watch and experience, all over the possibility of winning $50 on the house.
Sorry for the long winded post, just wanted to share a little about my experience. I'm ultra conservative and absolutely will not lose a dime this time around. Most of my bets are .50 cents at a time, but still fun nonetheless. My advice is to learn to go against the momentum play during live betting and try to bet plus odds if possible. For example, VCU was the superior team against St Joe's tonight but St Joe's went on a 10-0 run to tie it at 30 early. This was absolutely the time to put money on VCU. It doesn't always work, but more often than not a team will revert back to their norm. GLTAShocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.
