You pretty much expect to pay ridiculous prices when you go out these days but for steaks etc I didn't think the prices were out of line, considering quality and location. Everything we had was very good to excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive even though we thought they were fairly busy and a tad understaffed (for that many patrons). But the siracha honey glazed quail appetizers were next world. Seriously, easily one of the best and most surprisingly outstanding things I've had in 3 years at least. Would recommend.
Timberline? That place was good. Had that meal with the team a few times.

    • How’s taco shop these days? I miss grabbing a case of coors and 3 dozen soft tacos after a long week of work.

      • If anyone makes it out to Great Bend, I thought Los Dos Portrillos was a pretty good Mexican joint.

Taco shop and good BBQ are the only holes in my foodie heart.

Bah, you can easily make your own BBQ. But I'm not sure how to replicate junk food like Taco Shop. That takes special chemicals or something.

Your soft, pliable, arteries likely cannot be replicated after they become hardened if you eat 3 dozen tacos washed down by a case of Coors every weekend.

Wait, the Coors doesn't flush out the taco gunk??

I’m talking about the BBQ culture, the competitions, the homemade beans and sauces. Don’t take that for granted. I gave my smoker to my best friend when I moved. I’ve got another sitting down there waiting for me to come get it, and I’m enough of a snob to not buy one from Lowe’s or Home Depot up here.

                      • Grandma Thuy's found a buyer and will be changing names soon.

Wichita by EB - Cao's Wok to take over Grandma Thuy's space at the end of the month

Earlier this year, Grandma Thuy’s announced they were closing and looking for a new buyer. In August, new buyers were found. Be ready to welcome Cao’s Wok, a Chinese restaurant who will take over the space at 8728 W. Maple St.

Cao’s Wok currently has an opening date of Friday, September 27, but that is subject to change.

Once open, the menu will feature many popular Chinese favorites, including fried rice, General Tso’s chicken, beef & broccoli, egg rolls, lo mein, chicken wings and more.
Menu and pricing is in the link. They will also do some catering if interested.

                        • Wichita by EB - Hawaiian Bros. has an opening date for Wichita

Construction then started at the Plazzio development at 13th and Greenwich and soon Hawaiian Bros will be joining other restaurants at that corner such as Chicken N Pickle and UMI Japanese Steakhouse. But how soon? We finally have an answer.

Sources have told me that the Kansas City-based chain specializing in Hawaiian plate lunches has set a tentative opening date of November 18, 2024.

                          • Wichita by EB - Hurricane Sports Grill to close at the end of the month

The Tyler Pointe shopping center opened at 13th and Tyler in 2017. Four restaurants were part of that inaugural year and now only one of those is left. Kolace Dough Co. & Eatery and Uno Mas both closed a while back. And at the end of the month, Hurricane Sports Grill located at 8641 W. 13th St. announced they will be closing. That leaves Bagel Haus as the last of the original Tyler Pointe shopping center restaurants left.
I've eaten there once. I think we had a break during one of my nieces softball tournament a couple of years ago at TRYC. It was solid. The dessert was fantastic. The place was empty.

                            • Sounds like the landlord was upping the rent and Hurricane didn't want to renew at the increased price.

The space will be taken over by Chris Tincher who is moving and rebranding his Old Town restaurant Todd Brian's Brick Street Cafe & Tavern (which I've never personally heard of) after I believe 12 years. It's apparently a Cajun inspired joint.

                              • Sounds like we have a new, quality addition to The Waterfront.

Wichita by EB - First look at Sheet's Creek, Wichita's newest bar at the Waterfront

A new bar has recently opened at 1720 N. Webb Road. Mort’s Martini Bar’s sister establishment, Sheet’s Creek, is now open to the public.

And in case you’re wondering, this new spot is not a bar displaying memorabilia of the television show, “Schitt’s Creek”. It’s a play on words, so to speak, as the owner’s name is Morrie Sheets.

                                1720 N Webb Road, Wichita, KS 67206

                                Sunday – Thursday: 3pm – 11pm
                                Friday – Saturday: 3pm – 1am
Sounds like this is heavily cocktail focused (not that there aren't plenty of beer and wine options) and the menu is apparently surprisingly fantastic. Pics of the menu as well as some of Eddy's thoughts are in the link.
