Yes, there was a new freshman from Oklahoma and one of what I was told are two juco transfers. Everyone looked like they were really toned. Plus, all sitting together and laughing and having a good time, they seemed like a real tight-knit unit.

We know what that roster is. We want to know who the new ones are and why it is such a big secret is beyond me. I have never seen a coach that wont let you know what is going on, expecially a new coach

          Roster

I sent a question on the roster additions to Paul Sullentrop of the Eagle about 2 days ago via his Q/A column on the Eagle Website. He'll probably ferret out the answers in the next few days.

            From Today's Wichita Eagle:

Numbers game -- WSU's women's basketball roster lists eight names on the athletic department's Web site. Consider that list incomplete.

Freshman Haleigh Lankster, a guard from Tulsa, is on the team and not listed. Coach Jody Adams is also waiting on NCAA clearance for two junior-college transfers. Both are in school and working out with the team. She declines to name them until they are eligible.

"Eight, or 10, I'm OK as long as they're committed to Wichita State," she said.

In any case, conditioning will be important and Adams is pleased. The Shockers have made big stride since the spring.

"When you're in shape, and you're strong, then you're allowed to perform and use the skill you have at a higher rate of speed," she said. "Our conditioning level needed to improve. Our strength needed to improve."

Defense has been the focus of individual workouts -- in groups of four -- this fall. Beginning Monday, Adams can work with larger groups if she chooses. The emphasis on defense and conditioning won't change.

"It's a different group, a different swagger," she said. "I love the mentality that I'm seeing."

              Roster

I saw that article. I hope the two juco transfers are front line players - they need another center & perhaps a power forward with some size. They seem to have quite a few guards on the roster although some of them can probably also play the 3 position.

Hopefully, we can get the two juco players eligible. The fact that we are a month into the first semester and they still are not declared eligible can't be a very good sign can it?

Whitney Rice will miss the entire season due to injury:

That drops the roster back to 10 players.

Whitney has just been snake-bitten with illness and injury during her Shocker career. Hopefully, she has a complete recovery from her current injury.

What is a career-ending medical hardship? Are they trying to get her one more year of eligibility? From Coach Adams comments it sounds like her career may be over.

I think career-ending medical hardship would be something like Zach Green recieved. Due to injury he was no longer able to play but was able to remain on scholarship at the school but not counting against the team limit. I've never actually heard the term but know it happens.
