A little surprised to see Nikki Larch-Miller competing in the Heptathlon. I new she was entered but thought they might hold her to save her stamina for the open events she will be competing in similar to what the Shocker men are doing with Hutner Veith.

In any case, Nikki starts out with a nice win in the 100H worth 1,053 points followed closely by fellow Shocker senior Gavyn Yetter.

Martiesha Caines, Breanne Borman and Sydney Wilson have strong high jumps for the Shocks clearing 5-5.75 which is a good event for those three. Martiesah edges ahead of Nikki into 1st, Breanne moves up to 3rd, Gavyn is in 6th and freshman Syndey Wilson joins those 4 seniors in 7th place after 2 events.

So. Claudia Rojo is just outside of a scoring position in 9th place but is only 1 point out of 8th.

The Deck is shuffled a little bit after the shot put where Breanne's strenght allow her to move into 1st followed by Nikki, Gavyn and Martiesha. Syndny is in 8th and Caudia falls to 11th.

Only the 200 remains for the Shockers which should be a strong event for Nikki.

Looks like Jamesia Milton has broken her school record of 202-4 in the Hammer Throw which she set at Texas Tech two weeks ago with a very good throw of 205-8. However, SIU Sr. Frey Block was a little bit better at 211-8. However, that was pretty much according to form although Jamesia was 3rd on the form charts coming in so she actually outperformed the form charts by 1 spot.

Nice job Jamesia and congrats on your new PR and WSU record.

This was a last minute change. Nikki was going to run the 100, 200, hurdles, 4X1 and LJ and Javelin for sure, but there was last minute concern that her score might not hold up for Nationals, so the Hept it is.

Is she going to do any open events as well?

As anticipated Nikki had a very good 200M run at 24.11 and retakes 1st place at the end of day 1 with 3,412 points. Breanne Borman ran a 25.25. Gavyn Yetter 24.53 and Martiesha Caines a 25.27 as those 4 maintain the top 4 spots in the Hpetathlon at the end of Day 1.

I think that the times for Breanne, Gavyn and Martiesha were all PR's.

Sydney and Claudia are sitting in 11th and 12th at the end of Day 1.

Trying to get an update on that, but it seems she's going to have to back off a little. Maybe skipping the Javelin and long jump especially.

I think she'll still run the 200 tonight, but I don't know for sure.

It may kind of depend on how things are spaced out. The 100M and 100H would seem to be races she would run. Maybe the 4x100 as well. Not sure about the 200M. Yeah I could see her skiping the Javelin and Long Jump. The issues with the dashes is that she has to run both the prelims and the finals.

Concerns about her making Nationals is waning. She may not complete the Hept tomorrow if that holds.
