Of course, if that is the case meet officials should have reported it as a DNS not a DNF. But it is the Valley.

I think Nikki just broke her school record in the 60H at 8.25 only to be one upped by sister Taylor at 8.21 as Taylor and Nikki go 1-2 in the prelims. Marteisha Caines also qualified for the finals with a 8.67 giving the Shocks 3 of the 8 scoring slots in the finals.

So. Rebekkah Topham and Sr. Savannah Fox advance to the 1-Mile run final. 10 qualifiers.

Shocks fail to qualify anyone for the 400M finals. Natalie Halfman and Daysha Bullocks just missing the cut.

Nikki and Taylor both qualify in the 60m dash. Nikki with a new PR at 7.39. Jacque Darby, Raianna Maples and Angie Vailas just missed the final 8.

Shocks had not entries in the 800m run.

Nikki and Taylor both qualify in the 200m dash. Fr. Jacque Darby missed qualifying for the final 8 by .02 of a second. Of interest is that 4 of the top 9 prelim times were freshman.

Sr. Sidney Hirsch picks up a win in the 5k with a time of 16:56.01 edging out Bradley's Hanna Witzcak by 0.73 seconds.

The Shocks DMR team was 5th picking up 4 points.

At this point the Shockers are projected to score 179 points with Illinois State next at 131 points.

Meghan Holmes, Courtney Mills and Annette Hodges finish 6th, 7th and 8th, respectively, in the triple jump. the Shocks will gladly book those 6 points.

There are a few event results not yet recorded on the Live Result link (yeah, sure, live results) but it does appear final team scores have been posted and both the Shocker Men and Shocker Women are MVC Indoor Track & Field Champions both winning in very convincing fashion.

                On the women's side:

                1. WSU 181
                2. ILS 119
                3. INS 98
                4. SIU 89
                5. UNI 67.5
                6. MSU 46
                7. DU 33.5
                8. LOY 15
                9. BU 14
                Way to go Shocks.

Nikki Larch-Miller is the Women's MVP (most points scored) for the 2017 Valley Indoor Track & Field Championship. She was also the Most Outstanding Female Track Athlete (with the highest ranking individual performance on the NCAA list).

Breanne Borman is the Women's Most Outstanding Female Field Athlete (with the highest ran ranking individual field performance - Pentathlon score I presume).

Claudio Rojo is the Women's Indoor Track & Filed Elite 18 winner.

Coach 'Bolt is the Women's Coach of the Year (again).

I believe all Top 3 finishers in the Championship meet are considered All-Conference in that event and receive event medals.

Congratulations to Coach Rainbolt and staff (after all the Coach of the Year award is really a Coaching Staff of the Year award), to Nikki, to Breanne, to Claudia and to all the outstanding and hard-working Lady Shock trackletes.

Thanks for the complement. Track and Field is no doubt a minor sport in terms of revenue and fan interest. However, Track and Field (which includes XC) is significant in a few ways.

                          1. There are more student-athletes that compete in Track & Field than in other sport at Wichita State by far. Currently we have a roster of 52 men and 59 women for a total of 111 athletes although Coach Rainbolt only gets 12.6 scholarships for the men and 18 scholarships for the women to divvy up. That averages to around a one-quarter scholarship. So most of these kids are pretty much shouldering most, if not all, of the cost of their attendance at WSU. These are true student athletes for sure. Fortunately, most of these kids are good students and perhaps get some academic scholarship support as well.

                          2. Track & Field when broken down into it's components of Men's & Women's Cross-Crountry, Indoor Track & Field, Outdoor Track & Field represents 6 of the 15 sports needed to maintain Division 1 Membership.

                          3. In terms of the All-Sports Trophy points the Track & Field Programs (each of the 6 components) is a huge contributor to Wichita State's success (or failure) in winning that trophy. Perhaps not a big deal but I do think that it is a source of pride.

Nothing is as important as Men's Basketball at Wichita State. Athletics at WSU begins and ends with and depends on Men's Basketball. The success of the Men's Basketball is of paramount importance and the key to everything else in Wichita State athletics.

However, since we have to maintain these other sports we may was well do them to the best of our ability. This was something Jim Schaus stressed and promoted and I appreciate his efforts in that regard.

As fans I think we should support these sports to the best of our ability. At the very least we can show interest in these athletes and programs and acknowledge their successes (and ***** about their failures I suppose). The way I look at is that any financial support given to these other sports is really supporting Men's Basketball. Any dollar these other sports can generate is one less dollar that has to be subsidzied by Men's Basketball.

In terms of entertainment value I enjoy following, and to the extent I can, supporting all of our minor sports. To me this is just one more thing that can set us apart from the rest of the Valley and at least not detract from our attractiveness to other conferences.

The Shockers 181 point winning total was the 2nd hightest in Valley history only trailing the 186 points racked up by the 2011 Wichita State team.

This was the Lady Shocks 6th indoor title and their 1st since 2013.

I have Nikki Larch-Miller with 30 points for the Lady Shocks. Taylor chipped in 17 and Rebkkah Topham had two wins for 20 points.

Shocker Seniors contributed 115 of the Shocks 181 points.

Just watched Rebekkah Topham's win in the mile run. A really terrific battle between Rebekkah and fellow sophomore Brooke Moore for Indiana State. These two runners look like they will have many battles over the next 3 outdoor and 2 indoor Valley championships remaining in their careers.

The race is about 5 minutes into the 4 hour replay of Sunday's action.
