  • 2016-17 Shocker Indoor Track & Field

Since I screwed up the title on the intial thread I decided to start a new thread with the correct school year since I could not get an administrator to change that.

Here is a link to the previous thread if anyone is interested. http://shockernet.net/forum/showthre...rack-amp-Field

The Valley Indoor Championships are about a month away. Most of what the Shocks will be doing between now and then will be to try to hit their peak performance at that time.

In the women's Pentathlon, Nikki Larch-Miller won on Friday with a career-best and the second-best in Shocker history with 4,085 points, while Breanne Borman was second with 3,878 points. Martiesha Caines was third with 3,877 points.

Out in Washington, Sidney Hirsch runs 16:50.58 in the 5k. That's an indoor PR and #5 all-time in WSU history.
      Great job
      @HIRSCHy_kisses

Nice performance by the Shocker senior although she is still 1:25 behind the school record held by Aliphine Tuliamuk- Bolton. Shows you what a stud Aliphine was when it came to the distance races.

Nikki Larch-Miller was the MVC Female Field Athlete of the Week with her winning score of 4,085 points in the Pentathlon at the Jack Jennett Open in Cedar Falls. On a converted basis (adjusted for track size) that would be 4,107 which is 5th best in the nation so far this year although I have no idea how that will hold up. Not sure what the level of competition was at this meet. The Pentathlon was basically a triangular between WSU, UNI and Indiana State witht he Shocks taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th.

Nikki was 48 points shy of the 4,133 point school record set by her teammate Breanne Borman last year. Breanne finished 2nd with 3,878 points just edging out Shocker Marteisha Caines by 1 point. Shocker Freshman Sydney Wilson was 6th with 3,493 points. Breanne has hampered some last year with a chronic knee issue and that may be slowing her down some again this year. But Nikki who sat out last year with an achilles injury has returned for her Senior year with a vengeance. Nikki, Breanne and Marteisha are all seniors so the Shocks have some big shoes to fill next year.

ST. LOUIS  --  Wichita State's Nikki Larch-Miller has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week after winning the Pentathlon Friday at Northern Iowa, it was announced by the conference office.

The Lady Shocks had 3 very solid pentathlon performances today at the Herm Wilson Invitational at the Heskett Center from the Shocker senior trio of Nikki Larch-Miller, Breanne Borman and Martiesha Caines.

The pentathlon and decathlon at this event are pretty much an intra-squad competition as none of the other 3 D-1 schools particiating this weekend (ORU, UMKC and North Texas) participated in the multi-events.

Nikki set a new school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 6.27 seconds breaking the Shocker record held of 8.31 held by NIkkie and her sister, Taylor, on her way to a new PR total score of 4,121 in the Pentathlon. Breanne followed with a 3,975 including a PR in the shot put and Martiesha was 3rd with a score of 3,904 which is a carrer best for her.

Nikki's score was just 12 points shy of Breanne's school record of 4,133. If Nikki had jumped 2 centimeters higher in the high jump or knocked 1 second off her 800 times she would have set a new Shocker record.

Good to see Breanne and Martiesha improving as well. Nikki's score is the 5th best in the nation so far this season, Breanne's score was the 10th best and Martiesha's scores was the 13th best and these are the top 3 scores in the Valley so far this season.

BTW, Taylor Larch-Miller will be running in the open 60m hurdles tomorrow so maybe she can catch back up to Nikki.

The Shocker team of Marteisha Caines, Daysha Bullocks, Natalie Halfman and Nikki Larch-Miller set a new 4x400 relay school record with a 3:40.88 in winning that event at Pitt State. This broke the record set on January 21st of this year by Marteisha, Natalie, Nikki and Taylor Larch-Miller of 3:42.87.

Nikki Larch-Miller also set a new Shocker school record for the indoor 400m at 54.57 seconds breaking Natalie Morerods' record of 54.93 set in 2014.

At Arkansas Jamesia Milton set a new PR in the shot put at 49-9.25 just a half inch shy of the school record.

Also at Arkansas So. Rebekah Topham won the 3k in 9:36.13 (4th best in school history) and Sr. Sydney Hirsch finished 2nd with a time of 9:52.82.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark./PITTSBURG, Kan.  --  Wichita State's indoor track and field teams set school records in the men's Distance Medley Relay, women's 4x400 meter relay and the women's 400 meters Saturday at the Tyson Invitational and the Pitt State Gorilla Classic.

Looks like some bad new at the Valley Championships. Nikki Larch-Miller was a DNF in the opening Pentathlon event, the 60M hurdles. Not sure what happened. Best case is she clipped a hurdle and fell and will still be available to the Shocks this weekend. Worse case is she pulled up with an injury and is out of the meet.

It appears she has dropped out of the Pentathlon. Whether or not she is done for the weekend or worse is unknown. I have my fingers crossed but who knows.

No comment about this on the Shocker twitter account.

Despite Nikki Larch-Miller being out of commission after the 1st event of the day the Lady Shocks racked up 31 points in the pentathlon.

                            1. Breanne Borman 4,054
                            2. Marteisha Caines 3,962
                            3. Gavyn Yetter 3,742
                            5. Claudia Rojo 3,695
                            6. Sydney Willson 3,596

Congratulations to Breanne and all of her teammates.

I am hoping that HCSR may have decided just to withhold Nikki from the Pentathlon, in which I think she has already qualified for Nationals, and use her in as many open events as he can.

That's exactly what they decided. Nikki's score held up so they didn't even start her in the Pent. She'll focus on the individual events.
