MVC SB Tournament

[1972Shocker]

Bradley's Madeline Lynch-Crumrine has been pretty tough on the Shockers in her career. In our regular season series she shut out the Shocks 5-0 on a 4-hitter in Game 1.

Game 2 the Shocks trailed Bradley 5-1 going into the bottom of the 7th against Bradley's #2. After the Shockers scored 2 and loaded the bases with 1-out against Bradley's #2 pitcher the Braves brought in L-C. A single by Fortner drive in 2 to tie the game and and infield single by Jaegers won it 6-5. This may actually have been the game that launched the Shocks to a Valley title.

That confidence carried over to Game 3 as the Shocks hammered L-C for 7 runs on 5 hits, a hit batter and a walk and knocked her out of the game in the 1st inning on their way to a 13-3 win and the Shocks have not really looked back since then.

Not sure how today's game will go though as post-season play is a totally new season. You know L-C, in her Senior year, will be out for revenge.

Looks like the wind is blowing pretty hard, although I'm not sure which direction.

In the first, a single for the Braves and Brittany reached on an error for the Shocks. PaigeL is out on strikes as she clearly checks her swing, but the plate umpire calls her out on the swing without checking with a partner. No excuse for that. But the plate has been to Wichita - he is a good umpire.

The plate and third are Oklahoma guys, the first base umpire is from Illinois or the surrounding area.

We looked a little anxious in our swings.

Not impressed with this home plate ump.

Bradley scores a run in the second. After a single and double puts runners in scoring position with one out, the Shocks get an out at the plate on a safety squeeze attempt. But then Katie walks two to force in a the run. Sloan was up during the inning.

Not impressed with this home plate ump.

At this level, you have to get a red seam on the white for a strike - you have to get the ball down. If you are not willing to call that kind of zone, you don't get this assignment.

In the Shocker second, Melanie and Ashley single, but the Shocks cannot score. I like that Ashley is driving the ball, not always slapping it. She had a triple last weekend. Bradley leads 1-0 after two complete.

The Shocks strand two again in the third after PaigeL singles and Brittany walks. Still 1-0 Bradley. L-C is leaving nothing on the plate, and we are swinging at a lot of pitcher's pitches.

Unfortunately, the BU girl that hit the grand slam (Clemente) went yard, and (gulp) so did the girl behind her for back to back jacks and it's 3-2 Gargoyles.

And then depression set in.
