Keep in mind that Texas Tech was 6-24 last year including 0-18 in the Big XII so chances are the kids transferring are probably not world beaters.

Or a good player didn't like being in a loser program.

Could be but looks like their Coach who was in her 1st year last year was intent on making some big roster changes. But these kids were pretty well thought of coming out of high school and we will have a lot to replace after next year.

OTOH Texas Tech did win a National Championship in 1993 and have 20 NCAA appearances and 3 Big 12 Championships. They are 838-384 (0.686) in 37 seasons. The last NCAA appearance was in 2013, a 70-71 1st round loss to South Florida.

That said the last of their 4 Elite 8's was in 2003 and the last of 11 Sweet 16's was in 2005 so their program does seem to be on the wane (somewhat similar to Shocker Baseball). Whether hiring one of their own, Candi Whitaker, last year will resurrect their program remains to be seen. I would think recruiting to Lubbock, Texas has its challenges, although they have proved it can be done.

Still, overall the Shocker fans would kill for that kind of program tradition in our WBB program, not withstanding that Texas Tech was a pretty bad basketball team last year.

The Red Raider heyday was during the Marsha Sharp era. She won with players from primarily small-town west Texas. (Think Deb Patterson.) The star of their national championship team was Sheryl Swoopes who is now the head women's basketball coach at Loyola. Swoopes came from Brownwood, TX, whose current population is about 19,000. While Ms. Sharp was coaching at Tech, they actually played in a WSU-hosted tournament. Are the times different with an emphasis on big-city, AAU girls? Quite possibly.

Sheryl Swoopes who was one of the more athletic, if not the most athletic woman player I have ever seen, was a High School AA and widely recruited siging out of HS with the Texas Longhorns, the only school she seriously considered. 4 days into the semester she relinquished her scholarship and returned home apparently due to acute home sickness. She then transferred to South Plains Junior College in Levelland, TX, about 30 miles north of her hometown of Brownfield (not Brownwood) and 30 miles west of Lubbock. Texas Tech was ultimately the beneficiary of Sheryl wanting to be close to home.

Too bad Jackie Styles did not suffer from the same desire to be close to home, although Wichita is only slightly closer to Claflin then Manhattan so even if she wanted to stay close to home she probably would have picked K-State. (SMS, UConn and K-State were her final three - she grew up as KU fan and they were in her Top 10 but she just felt more comfortable at SMS, UConn and K-State.) Even better would have been a homesick Lynette Woodward. Oh well...

Deb Patterson certainly hit the recruiting lottery with Nicole Ohlde, Kendra Wecker and Laurie Koehn who were within 115mi., 60 mi. and 40 mi. of Manhattan respectively. But finding that kind of talent concentrated in close by small communities in a small population state during the same time period was going to be tough to repeat. But it certainly put K-State women's basketball on the map for a while until Deb Patterson apparently became somewhat overzealous in pushing her religious beliefs on her players and assistant coaches..

I see former Shocker Jacie Hoyt-Capra has landed on the new K-State staff.

It will be interesting to see if the new coaching staff at KSU can re-invigorate that program. I have to admit I was really surprised with what I saw when the Shocks blew out K-State 69-46 in Manhattan last year, although K-State was very young last year and the Shockers relentless style took advantage of the inexperience.

So, Anna K is available immediately, but what class is she? I noticed that she is 20 years old.
