The coach is at half-court about to start the "good game" line as Jessie makes her layup - and then has the nerve to give the old arms-extended, palms-up, mouth-agape with a "what's up with that?" look on her face act. You're right - if Jessie is going to be guarded hard with the shot clock off and the game out of reach, she ought to take the layup.

Just for the record, while I think the Illinois State coach is a good basketball mind, I don't have a lot of respect for how she conducts her program. Last year when they won at Koch, both she and her team made a show of celebrating on the court; then they made a show of doing a cheer during our intro video this year; then she delays the game and berates the officials because her own player decided to shove one of our girls instead of just walking out of bounds to inbound the ball; then she calls at timeout with 20 seconds to go in a double digit game and orders her players to press and attempt the steal while we were willing to run the clock out. Have to agree with you 100% on all points. And when Jessie drove for the layup after being pushed and bumped all the way up the court for 20 seconds by Jamie Russell, Coach Glance acted like we had done something offensive. Give me a break.

Nice to get a double digit win in a game where you are outrebounded by 15. Especially against the team that may well have the best personnel in the Valley. While ILS did have a big size advantage I think the Shock had a big advantage in athleticism and the size of their hearts.

Great to see Jaz back in the mix and after missing an early bunny she was very good coming back after 4-game absence due to a concusssion.

      Kelsey also gutted it out.

Jessica and Darice were also very good, but Alex was superb. Maybe not All-American superb but certainly All-Conference superb.

BTW, Jessica as now knocked down 34 consecutive free throws.

For all I said against their coach, I think that her "what's up with that?" look at the end was not about Jessie making the layup, but about the official deciding to put .2 seconds on the clock and make them inbound it rather than just letting the game run out like 99% of officials would have in that situation. That said, she had hardly earned the benefit of the doubt with her other behavior.

Was Chynna injured, she came out kind of in pain or breathing hard. I have no idea.

For as good as Alex's game on offense was (and it was really good) her defense was even better. ISU's top three players are a penetrating point guard (Russell), a 3-point shooting guard/forward (Sykes), and a back to the basket power forward (Smith). Alex took shifts on every one of them and shut each of them down when they were matched up. She moved her feet quicker than Russell, raced to spots faster and elevated higher than Sykes, and played stronger in the paint and closer to the rim than Smith. There just aren't many people, men or women, that have the ability to defend that many positions and we've got one. She's something special.

I was wondering whether they were taking her back for concussion tests, because there wasn't anything else that I could see wrong with her.

Coach Glance would be a good stunt double for Beulah Ballbricker of Porky's fame.

We need one of WState's photo comparisons.

I haven't seen all the teams but frankly I think Illinois State is under coached for the amount of talent they have. They have good guards, size and a veteran lineup. While they certainly aren't bad, they should be better, IMHO.

                    Sounds like a major bit**.

Glad Jessica made the layup and glad we punked 'em.

After the time out and them pressing I was yelling at Jess to light up a 3. I thought Illinois State was pretty classless this evening. From our vantage point in 112 I could see the trainer take Chynna into the tunnel several times but couldn't figure out what was happening.
I thought Jaz Gordon looked as smooth as I have ever seen her on her jumpers and free throws and didn't out-jump her jump shot.
Sky is the limit for Alex. Hopefully Jody backs off the AA talk and let's her enjoy the game like she did tonight.
And can't find the words to describe Michelle's fearless play. I know what my reaction was to her tumbling into the crowd.... And I can't repeat those words in church. Great effort from her and the team fed off it tonight.

Alex played the full 40 minutes which actually may not be the most ideal situation, but I think Jody knew how important this game was and with Chynna only getting 11 minutes for unknown reasons Jody's hand may have been forced somewhat.

In any case, Alex's line: 17 points on 6-11 FG (1-2 treys), 4-5 from the FT line, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, 3 steals and only 1 turnover.

Alex had plenty of help from her teammates especially Jessica, Jaz and Darice. Darice with one of her more complete games as a Shocker with 10 points and 6 rebounds in 31 minutes. She was 2-3 on treys and the Shocks were 4-7 on treys showing very good patience and judgement against the ILS zone.

The Shocks also did a great job taking care of the ball with only 7 turnovers to 16 for ILS.

Indiana State will be coming in Sunday off a 71-67 road win over Missouri State tonight in Springfield, although that is apparently not the accomplishment it used to be. Still Shocks need to follow up with another solid effort. Hope there is nothing serious going on with Chynna.

Also, last night Bradley trounced Evansville 78-52 in Peoria, so the aces are now 3 full games behind the Shocks.

This year's team has guts, and swagger. Guts: Kelsey and a torn ankle doing her best in great pain, Jaz off the concussion, Jessie, bad back, Michelle giving up her body on every play. Swagger: Jessie show the Birds, you don't want some sportsmanship, take a layup in your face. So do the fans as I read this blog. I hope the fever catches. Super Bowl doesn't start until 5:30. Watch a great game, then go home and cheer on my 49ers.

Maybe. But they didn't put any time back on the clock - it stopped on the made basket. However, in the first half the officials did put 0.6 back on the clock after the shot clock violation, rather than letting time run out, the proper decision. I suspect the clock operator was especially diligent in end-of-half situations after that. Hence, 0.2 seconds after the made basket.
