With WSU men losing three straight, KU losing and Creighton men losing, the news has turned to the Lady Shox. I watched Jody on channel 3 morning news. Good promo and I hope the fans keep coming and the fan base increases. I have no news on Chynna.

Important games on Friday night vs UNI and on Sunday afternoon vs Bradley. With the Shocks leading Creighton by only 1 game and with 5 of our remaining 7 games after this weekend's homestand being on the road including @Creighton, @Illinois State and @Indiana State it's important that we hold serve at home.

Our other two road games are @Drake and @Missouri State. The Shocks coasted to a 19 point win over Drake at Koch Arena after building a 15 point halftime lead, playing a very unispired 2nd half. Missouri State has been pretty bad this year going 2-6 until they pounded Illinois State last Sunday 91-76 in Springfield. Not sure what to think of Missouri State. They got hot last year after in the second half of Valley play going 8-1 including a 85-67 win over the Shocks in Springfield.

Our other two home games after this weekend are vs Evansille and vs SIU. Both are games we should win although Evansille was quite tough in our 49-45 win in Evansville and SIU got hot from three to make our game in Carbondale much more interesting than it should have been.

Creighton's remaining schedule is pretty much a reverse image of the Shocks. They have a very important road trip this weekend at Indiana State on Friday and at Illinois State on Sunday. After that they get 5 of their remaining at home (including the Shocks). Other than the Shocks pounding the Bluejays by 22 at home, ony Evansville put up any kind of a fight against Creighton in the 1st. Evansville lost by 7 (70-63) at home to the Bluejays. Creighton beat the other 7 teams by an average of 19 points (4 home games and 3 road games). Creighton's final 3 games of the season are at home and are just about gimmies vs Drake, Evansville ans SIU.

Meanwhile The Shocks close on the road at Illinois State, Indiana State and Missouri State.

If Creighton can get by both Illinois State and Indiana State on the road this weekend they will be sitting in a very favorable position even if they are still a game behind the Shocks.

The Shocks simply can not afford to stumble against either UNI or BU this weekend.

UNI is up first Friday at 7:00pm. UNI, of course, features Jacqui Kalin who leads the Valley in scoring at 20.0 PPG in 9 Valley games (18.7 PPG overall). Kalin knows how to get to the free throw line and Valley officials are more than happy to give the 6th year senior and former Valley POY the benefit of the doubt in their calls where she is 51-53 (96.2%) in 9 Valley games.

UNI is coming off of a 76-59 win over SIU and a 75-64 win over Evansville, both at home last weekend. The 5-8 Kalin lead the way with 20 points vs SIU and 28 vs EU and was selected Valley player of the week. 6-2 Fr F Hannah Schonhardt pitched in 15 points and 9 rebounds against SIU and 23 points and 8 rebounds against EU and was selected the Valley Newcomer of the week.

I think if we keep Kalin and Schonhardt under reasonable control (especially Kalin) then we should win this game as long as our offense can produce at a reasonable level, we do a fair job of rebounding and we limit our turnovers to around 12.

Injuries — Forwards Chynna Turner (undisclosed) and Alie Decker (knee) are not expected to be available Friday. Adams declined to offer a timeline for their return, stating each was “day-to-day.”
Not sure what's going on with Chynna but we could sure use her ASAP. Alie is not such a key and it will no doubt take her a while to get back into game shape. Not that Alie ever looked to be in great shape anyway.

I think that has been posted on ShockerNet. I also though Jody or Dana saying somehting about Chynna being sick. Of course, you being sick is a possible symptom of a concussion. For whaterver, reason they aren't saying much about it.

Another ugly thing of beauty in the books as the Shocks knock off UNI 57-47.

Shocks saved a very poor offensive 1st half with a 5-0 run at the end of the half capped by a fast, fast-break basket by Alex Harden just beating the clock to close to within 1 at 22-23.

Shocks were much better offesnively in the 2nd half although they still missed some very easy baskets and outside of Jessica they were a little shaky at the line. Probably should have won this one by 20.

Jacqui Kalin got her points (20) but she only scored 7 in the 2nd half, mostly after the issue was settled. Shocks pretty much shut the rest of the Lady Panthers down.

Alex Harden lead the Shocks with 16 points although she was an uncharactristic 2-6 from the foul line and she added 7 rebounds and 3 assists vs 1 turnover. Jessica chipped in 11 points, a career high 9 rebounds, 6 assists vs 0 turnovers, and a resounding block of a UNI 3-point attempt. Darice Fountaine pitched in with 8 points and what I assume is a season high with 10 rebounds. Alex played all 40 minutes for the Shocks again. Something Jody needs to monitor.

If This team can just get things figured out and functioning at a high level on the offensive side of things they would be very tough to deal with.

Hopefully, Chynna is released to play on Sunday.

Creigthon loses 41-58 at Indiana State tonight so the Shocks now have a 2-game lead over the 2nd place Bluejays.

Box score says 1912. My guess was 750-800. At least they saw a barn burner! BU game on Sunday should be a blast.

My guess is closer to 1,200, but in any case, one of the better actual butts in the seats attendance of the year.

Bradley seems like they are and should be better than their 3-7 conference record indicates. Shocks defeated the Braves in Peoria a month ago 62-58.

Perhpas a classic strength-on-strength matchup. The Braves lead the conference in scoring offense and are 8th in scoring defense (7th in conference games only) while the Shocks lead in scoring defense and are 8th in scoring offense (5ht in conference games only).

Bradley lost to MSU Friday night 86-91. They had 5 players in double figures and a 6th with 9 points. They shot 34-74 (45.9%) from the field including 11-23 (47.8%) on 3-pointers and 7-9 from the line. In fact, they may have lost this game at the line as MSU was 15-26 (65.2%) fron the line. A lousy % but a 3 to 1 advangtage in attempts also Missouri State outrebounded Bradley 51-31. Considering the discrepancies in FT's and rebounding Bradley did quite well making this a game.

One of the things that makes Bradley a challenge is that they don't rely on only 2 or 3 players like many other Valley teams do. The have 4 players averaging in double figures and 3 others averag 6 to 7 PPG. Here are Bradley's stats:

and here's the Bradley roster: http://www.bradleybraves.com/SportSe...99&SPSID=19343

Hopefully, Chynna will be back in the mix for the Shocks on Sunday.

Will be heading out to Koch Arena in a little while. For some reason this one has be concerned despite Bradley's 3-7 Valley record.

                              Go Shocks!

I was interviewed by a woman at the mens indiana state as to whether I went to the womens bb games as well. I told her I had gone to some in the past years but just was not a fan. I went today and I hope someone that also went will tell me what I saw was a not a normal womens bb game. Lots of dribble penetration to the basket by both teams to shoot a layup. Little help defense and lots of one arm rebounding. This was not a pretty game but if that is what womens bb is I guess I'm still not a fan. As I said its my first game in a while so if that is not the way the game is played I may give it another shot.
